    Default Comedy and burlesque

    Hi!

I am new here on the forums. I have two shows that are in development and I am thinking of adding a monologue to one of them and a song. While I am well versed in what I refer to as 'classic' burlie-cue, I've never tried to do comedy before. So, I'd love your input. Good idea or bad? Has anyone here gone in a comic direction, complete with speaking? If so, how do you incorporate the dance itself in with the monologue and/or comic song?

I thank you, in advance, for your kind replies.

I performed at Chaz Royale's Sexy Circus Sideshow last year and one of the performers (I think it was Stella Plumes - apologies if I got that wrong) did a Wartime act which was hilarious, combining striptease, dance and a spoken part where she performed a character based monologue in the form of a poem. It was brilliant and the audience loved it.
It might be worth checking on youtube to see if it comes up because it's a great example of what you're talking about.
I'd love to see how your idea turns out.

I love acts like this because the are different and often very engaging! If you get it right it can be fabulous, however if you get it wrong it could be a disaster!!! If you feel confident with your act I would say go for it, its so nice to see people pushing the boundaries and doing something a little different!

    Hi
I would have a look around on the web for any books on cabaret performance and how to put one together. They can be a great help when working something like this for the first time. Ultimately your act can be anything and everything you want. Begin with the subject you want to discuss then work out the story and then off you go!

I am fortunate to have a friend who is a highly regarded playwrite. He is working with me on the monologue. Therefore, the pressure is off of me a bit to actually write the dialogue. Incorporating it into the routine, on the other hand, may be a bit difficult. Thank you so much for your support in my 'off-the-wall' idea. I'm glad to hear that it has been done successfully and will check youtube for the example that you gave.

    Cheers!
