The Inevitable 'What Did You Learn in 2009' and 'What Are Your Goals in 2010' thread.
Happy New Year and much champagne-fuelled love to all! Time to reflect - did 2009 hold any burlesque epiphanies for you? Did you finally nail that character, master a tricky move, have an 'aha!' moment, make your first costume?
And what is your outlook for 2010 - what new skills would you like to master, any flexibility/fitness goals, promotional goals?
What would you like to learn and achieve?

I learned not to give a damn what anyone else thinks if it's not constructive, as I found that people who weren't nice were actually just jealous or insecure, and after all, my results speak for themselves as it were, so rather than getting upset and getting into a debate with such people, the best ammunition is to carry on being successful! That really rubs their noses in it lol.
I also learned how to be a leader, through branching out into teaching burlesque at weekly classes, hen parties, and festivals (lots of leadership skills needed to control a group of 50 drunk festival goers!!)
For 2010, I want to upgrade several acts, and now I have a residency I'd like to invest in some big props.

Twinkle, good for you! Life is too short to waste on unhelpful types, there are so many things to do!
2009 was the year I got Very Serious about burlesque - took two lots of courses and confirmed this was a relationship, not a fling! Learned how to work a sewing machine for costume making purposes, put together my first act and really started cobbling my character together. Also purchased first set of fans (thanks MOB'ers for suggestions!) .
In 2010, I hope to learn how to REALLY work a Kandi Kane, get a showreel and a website together and of course, perform! So many adventures to be had...

I found out that I was an idiot, listened to too many muppets, did not follow my dream, did not take notice of the brilliant info coming from the likes of Debs at Tip Top Photography. Got my self too wrapped up in crap to see the good stuff was just a question and a short drive away from me. Spent around three months blaming every one else eccept moi for my problems and lack of business etc. Spent far too long "knowing that I was at fault and was actually not very good at what I was trying to do" and that all the losers who told me it wouldn't work were quite correct. Spent 54 years "knowing" my mum was a complete areshole and didn't care for me one little bit then finding out I was utterly wrong for listening to my grand mother and my uncle Leon whan I was around 14 to 16 years old. Mummy and I are now Mother AND Son again after a rather upsetting weekend in November for us all.
As to the future? Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeellllllllllll, the photography business has been revamped a bit and after a minor squable with a "local" tog who took umbrage at Purbeck Photo "ART" as the business name, we changed it. The new web site is on its way as is a few other things for the Spring time so, I guess I am saying we will be exploding back onto the scene with a vengence from now.

2009 was an amazing year for me and Burlesque, I performed my first solo and got a job as the resident compere of Sheffield's best burlesque night - Burly Q. As for 2010, I want to learn to sew so I can make costumes and props and to give more thought to my perfomances... must learn to plan.
I would like to take the opportunity to wish everyone a happy and burlesquetastic year! xx
