show reels
Hello,
Does anyone have any advice on doing a showreel? I have little money, and little talent in that kind of thing myself, but i've managed to edit music on a simple programme i downloaded. Does anyone know of anything similar for video, or have any other suggestions?
Many Thanks,

There have been discussions on this is the past so I'll try and hunt some old links down. I did some very basic editing of our backstage antics at a photoshoot using Windows Movie Maker, including putting music to it. It was fairly easy but I don't know if I'd have had more trouble if it involved trying to sync certain bits of the music to certain clips, or when I want to add in titles, etc.
I'll soon find out as I'm looking to film myself performing again this weekend to get some better clips. We just used our camcorder, which is an ok quality digital one
I'll go hunt for those links...

Hi guys,
In my other life I'm a video journalist, and work with a number of packages. For Joe Bloggs, Windows Moviemaker is a very good basic programme and as previously mentioned it can be downloaded.
Basically when you import your footage (usually from plugging in your video camera to the PC and playing it in) you then click in and out on the pieces you want.
For example, if you have a close up shot of 30 seconds, but only want to use 10 seconds you would put a marker where you want to start and where you want it to end.
I would build up a selection on these, maybe from different routines, and then put them together. I think you can then add another audio file on the timeline and you could put some music imported from Itunes or similar.
I hope this doesn't sound too patronising! There are I'm sure very good guides available on the intternet. I've only used the programme a couple of times as I have another system for work, but thought I should give some suggestions.
Where are you based anyway?
