What is Burlesque, to YOU
hello all,
from seeing so many different people interviewed about burlesque
the answer is ALWAYS different
sometimes, its completely of their opinion - but they still give it as a valid answer when questioned
"what is burlesque?"
so - everyone!!
what is burlesque to YOU
not what is burlesque.
but what is it that you personally take from it...
food for thought! (or not.)WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

Satire comedy and totally tongue in cheek. I don't see it as something that should take itself too seriously as it then defeats its own purpose.
It's fun and should have limitless boundries.
In a nutshell.
In my humble opinion at least.Miss Amanda Mae Voodoo

Burlesque is my live saver, the provider of my friends, my reason to get out of bed on a morning, my reason to smile, an outlet for my creativity I've never experienced in anything else in my life, the source of me realising I'm not useless or a total waste of space. It's my motivator and my saviour.

For me, it was always more about the comedy, the clowning and the "oooh I say vicar", a way to recreate and celebrate something of a different era but in a way that was relevant to now also. But on a personal level its the thing that allowed me to be creative, made me interact with the world in a way I never wouldve , and took me to some places I never thought I would go. It put the magic and possibility back.

Burlesque is my reason and my passion,my friends and family,my salvation and damnation. A bitch of a mistress who i've devote my life to, And even with all the knowlage and money in the world and fifty years of study, I still wouldn't be able to fully embrace everthing that burlesque is as it's constantly evolving, constantly creating, and like anything worth having in life it only exists because of the curious and creative minds of others.

It's the outlet for my naughty cheeky side! Although, to be fair, she makes an appearance quite a lot in everyday life recently!

To me burlesque is an opportunity for self expression, it's the only creative industry when I have creative control every aspect of my performance, music, costume, dance style, narrative, etc etc. Although tbh I'm possibly more of a performance artist than a burlesquer stictly speaking, as the satire in my routines often comes from my knowing portrayal of typical female stereotypes rather than from obviously subverting those stereotypes.
Kittie wrote a really good 'what is burlesque' foreword for my book, would you guys like me to post it?"legs are better, you can fake boobs, you cant fake legs" - Sherz the Giant

To me the burlesque is something that takes me from my completly ignorance about it... I started in the year 2002 to Do some kind of music inspired in a moment of the time and a years later I gave life to my character a "cabaret woman"; all of this things just guided for a strange feeling of empaty with the 40 and 50 years...
in the end of the year 2008 for accident I found this page and I knew what the Burlesque is... So to me the burlesque is something new and full of the things that I like: art, sensulity and beauthy...
To me the Burlesque havent an humor state in special... I saw things very dark here and funny too... To me is not a joke, maybe is acid humor, but not to take like a joke...
I hope you can understand my "martian Inglish" and regards for you from South America.
