The staves are meant to be "unbreakable" ....but I have crushed them twice on stage..... must have a strong grip :-D

i bought some there as well and considering the price they really are good, but i'd advice you to take the larger ones if you want to do a proper feather dance.
the small ones are ok, but i only use them to compliment other costunmes. the 50 " are great though for a naked dance.
they also ahve sparkling handles which are great. and lastly get the double layer ones, i had to stick extra feathers on mine to make them look fuller.
all in all, they deliver really fast and answer all question you might have quite quickly

Cherry please excuse my ignorance, but what is mara-ostri? I looked at the sellers other items but couldn't find them.
Banbury, when you say you crushed them do you mean they are broken and now unuseable or 'just' cracked?
I am also looking for some economy white fans to practice with until i can afford my custom made ones. These would be about a third of the price (for two) and if they are of a reasonably good quality could always be used as spares afterwards.

Yes, sorry Rose, I have a tendancy to shorten things without thinking!
I have the double layer 54" fans, and they are fabulous! Have not broken any staves as yet.
Although for someone taller than myself, I would probably go with the 60" ones. As Im 5'3", and a friend of mine is 5'6" and they cover us quite well, but for anyone taller I would go with the bigger ones.

Large Double-layer Red Ostrich Feather fan 30"x 54" on eBay (end time 21-Apr-10 11:11:09 BST)
I purchased a pair of these, well my MIL did for christmas for me last year.
I have used them a few times and they really are pretty good. They come with thier own carry boxes which makes transportation easy.
The only thing I recomend is as what happened to someone else in this thread, superglue the screw holding the staves together. Mine came loose too!

I was particually interested in this thread because i was looking for some budget fans and had found this seller on ebay. I took note of the tips (double layer, larger size) and ordered the 30x54 double layer fans on the 6th and they came today. I would give them 7/10.
I ordered white and would say they are more natural and the spines are quite dark (almost black), although i am not sure if this is normal.
The boxes they come in are nice but mine were quite squashed during delivery (i have emailed the seller).
The feathers do seem a little thin and if you had single layer they would be quite see through, the picture looks a bit generous.
The communication with the seller was very good, and he was very helpful.
These would be ideal as starter fans or even spares. I think if you planned to use them a lot or expected them to last for years to come you might be a little disappointed.
These are just a few of my thoughts, they are my first fans and some of my comments may be the same for more expensive fans to. At the end of the day they are budget fans and i wasn't expecting premium quality, but for what i paid i am quite happy.
