Down in the Dumps
Hello gorgoues ladies...
Just a little rant, I've been feeling very low about myself lately, not being able to shift unwanted weight which has caused an outbreak of stretchmarks on my thighs and belly. I'm trying frantically trying to find cream that helps (thats affordable due to unemployment!!) and then to top off the little rut I have gfot myself into I broke my nose yesterday!!!
I'm feeling like I'm miles away from my dream of becoming a burlesque dancer, though I'm starting a course end of march it still seems like I can't do it due to scars.
HELP!!!
xxxxx

Darling - as a lady covered in scars and stretchmarks and ALWAYS bruising and breaking stuff let me tell you this. Some people do indeed get by on their looks but TALENT wins out everytime. As long as you put the work into doing an amazing show NO ONE will be paying attention to small flaws. (and I would like to point out that what may seem big to you will not be even noticeable to others)
Work hard and remind yourself that you are beautiful because of your scars AND in spite of them.
A women with scars and marks is a woman that's lived. And you can do well to remember that.
I am not skinny and I don't reveal all on stage either. I remove my bra but not my corset. Its all the act not how much you take off!Miss Amanda Mae Voodoo

Oh and on the subject of stretchmark creams. Biooil is the way forward and fairly inexpensive. It has at least been proven to work and it is good for all scars and generally good for the skin!

dont let worries about stretch marks and weight put you off by any means...i mean how crap would it be if we were all like barbie every performer looking the same like we had just been cloned or something!!!! thin, curvy, tall, short, scars tattoos, dimples, glasses...we are as we are and are perfect that way. xxxx

I've seen one lady do it and she was in the hurley burley group. Just need cash to sort some costumes out lol! I'm learning how to make corsets at the mo well I'm just starting.
and agapanthus, your totally right. I suppose you see people like dita von tesse and commercial people getting into the burlesque scene who are all incrediablly flawless.
Yay I feel so much more lifted thankyou!!!

I'm a newcomer to the world of Burlesque (as a spectator and not a performer) and it strikes me that it is all-encompassing and not restricted to Dita clones at all. The female form is beautiful irrespective of what shape it is and whether or not it carries battle scars.
Since I've been frequenting this forum, I feel like I could turn up to any Burlesque night anywhere and not worry about whether or not somebody thought my bum was too big to wear a tight skirt, or my wobbly bits too wobbly ... so just get up there, strut that funky stuff and sing your little heart out!

Yes, Yes, YES! I totally agree with you - I love the fact that we're not here to worry about having the perfect body, implants to make our boobs look better, (ribs removed to make us skinnier!!), and that there's so many beautiful, different sizes and shapes in both the performers and the audience alike.
I'll tell you a little secret... When I was 5 I was in a fire which has left really bad scars on my legs. I may notice them but other people do not because it's all in the way you carry yourself, once you've got the confidence, there's no stopping you. And this can be applied to all manner of things...
Good luck BetteBloom - I can't wait to see you on stage soon!
