Strange Quirks Of Performers On Their Travels
Whenever Kittie performs in other cities, she gets tremendously excited about 'Free Breakfast' - ie the complimentary breakfasts that hotels or venues give to us the morning after a show.
Kittie will often wake up after only an hour of sleep in order to claim 'Free Breakfast' even if she then decides to go back to sleep afterwards. Last night we were in our hotel room in Naples and I heard Kittie say "Not long now..." - referring to 'Free Breakfast' in just under seven hours.
Sadly we missed out this time after forgetting to put our clocks forward!
It then got me thinking if other performers have quirks/rituals that they get over-excited about each time they perform in cities away from home.

This made me laugh but I love if I ever get delayed or stop over in Amsterdam airport. There is the most amazing massage lady there, she knows me now and how bad my back is and gives me extra treatments.
Of course all the little bottles of shampoo, soup ect have to have them even. I am like Kittie I have to have my breakfast no matter how little sleep I have had.
Hugs

Panicking is a common one.
Going to switzerland with missy macabre was brilliant. Cause she is without a doubt the most laid back person to work with...
Me - "WE NEED TO GET TO THE GATE!!!!"
her - "oh we've got loads of time... Let's go get a drink and some food."
me - "FOOD?! What if it takes longer than usual to come and we get stuck here?!!?"
I always get excited about buying upper crusts bacon, spinach and cranberry baugettes during change overs.
Soundchecking in a new venue is something I adore
sometimes I will run through 3 or more songs (time permitting) to really get a feel of the stage. It's just such fun!! *geekgeekgeekgeek*
James - i was under the impression you were all about the free breakfasts?!

We're flying to Amsterdam on Monday - can I name-drop you in the hope of getting some form of discount?
I used to be a mayonnaise sachet kleptomaniac but Kittie put a stop to my burgeoning criminal condiment empire after one of them burst in her handbag. I'm not even that partial to mayonnaise - I just think that the thrill of the steal was what did it for me!
Hmmm - Naples is a city which is supposed to be run by the Mafia... I wonder if there are any job openings for someone with my skills. I could be called Don Mayonnaise!
If you have a particularly well paid foreign job, you could try purchasing one of Easyjets 'Fresh' bacon rolls. ~They are like normal bacon rolls except they are 3 times the price, four times as soggy and five times as likely to burn the roof of your mouth.
I'm Jewish - it's not so much the concept of free breakfast - it's the concept of free anything!

Checking the bouncyness of the stage so I know I won't hurt myself when I fall over. That and checking out the Town especially if I haven't been before, the joys of taking public transport mean that I usually get a whole day after a gig to explore a new place. I'm a proper old buildings geek.

I am the same....as last night's show proved as I ended up with 6 splinters in my left foot during rehearsals.
I also like to have a cup of tea and meet and greet all those involved in the production.
