- Do you cheer because you feel it's audience ettiquette to cheer every time a piece of clothing is removed?
No, but if it is removed well, and with flourish I will cheer, I love a bit of flourish!
- Have you ever seen an act in which it's felt inappropriate to cheer?
I have seen some where I am transfixed and only realise I haven't cheered at the end (Vicky Butterfly for example).
- Do you cheer only if/when a compere gets you excited?
I think a Compere can be very important in getting the crowd whipped into a frenzy, a half asleep crowd are NOT a noisy crowd! However some acts will do this by themselves, with a good choice of music or costume and props.
- Do you only cheer when you're thoroughly entertained?
No, sometimes I will cheer when I can see someone is nervous and needs the encouragement.
- Do you ever feel like the audience make too much noise? If you're a performer, does audience noise ever distract you?
No never, I performed at a non burlesque night at the weekend and the crowd were silent through my act, it really put me off, I felt like the crowd weren't with me (does that make sense?). At the end of the act they cheered like crazy, but I felt it had effected my performance slightly.
- Do you cheer for friends/people you know about in order to make them feel supported and more comfortable on stage?
Definatley, especially if they are nervous.
- Have you ever been surprised by an audience being quiet during a performance?
Yes, I have seen really good "whoop inducing" acts which have left the audience silent, and have really not understood it. Although in the same way I have seen some "flat" acts getting incredible applause. I think some of that comes down to taste, but I have certainly been confused at times.Raspberry Ripples - Your just desserts!

Nope I cheer because I am being entertained. Sometimes you can hear those fake half hearted cheers that people feel they have to do because something is happening. When they sound like this I can't help but think "Why bother?".
- Have you ever seen an act in which it's felt inappropriate to cheer?
Several, usually slow artistic pieces. Some of them you feel as though you would definately spoil the mood if you made a noise.
- Do you cheer only if/when a compere gets you excited?
Nope, but it doesn't hurt.
- Do you only cheer when you're thoroughly entertained?
Yes.
- Do you ever feel like the audience make too much noise? If you're a performer, does audience noise ever distract you?
Never distracts me, if anything makes you put more into the performance.
- Do you cheer for friends/people you know about in order to make them feel supported and more comfortable on stage?
I'll cheer, not to show support, but because they are good.
- Have you ever been surprised by an audience being quiet during a performance?
Nope, it's either been a poor act or one so beautiful everyone was in awe.
Buck Fast being honest since 1984.
