Thread: Wonder Woman Routines???

Hey guys and dolls

Been toying with this idea for ages and I am suddenly overcome with the desire to make the costume, so time for some research.

I'm sure people do wonder woman routines (it's too good a concept for them not to have done!), I remember frivolitease doing a double act secretary into wonder woman (but with wonder woman inspired costumes rather than actual wonder woman costumes), and I think one of the american ladies has a wonder woman act as her signiature piece (although the net is failing me when it comes to finding her name, it's indigo something or blue something!) but does any one know anyone other than that?

Mine will definately be different from the two above mentioned acts as I'm taking a 1950's comic inspiration rather than the tv show, so will be making an old school style costume rather than one of the awful slutty leg avenue type ones, and I have a great track for it (yet more Tricky going into my repotoir, not sure why I end up doing so many routines to tricky songs, they're not exactly burlesque hehe)

I'm totally sold on the concept, but if too many people do them I might have to re-think.... what do people think?

I think, especially with super heroes, cartoon characters, etc, it's impossible for someone else not to be doing an act based on them too, but as long as you put your own spin on things and make it unique to you then there shouldn't be a problem (unless, of course, a promoter doesn't do their job properly and books you on a bill with a similar act - which, hopefully, will never happen!)

Oh I am glad you remembered it was really bugging me who it was. i think you should go for it babe, I would love to but just felt it had been done. But you sound like you have a good idea on how to make it different on it.

I know you have your music sorted for it ... but I do hope there's at least one peformer who uses this:

My music is a version of that track sampled in a Tricky song, so it sounds like the wonderwoman theme tune but has lyrics about a real woman who's amazing. So I'm enjoying that the music will add an extra layer of meaning to the routine, which is something I do like to do. As usual the inspiration means alot to me and reflects an aspect of my life (my boyfriend is the biggerest american comic book geek ever) so I suppose this is kinda a way for me to do a routine that will appeal to him (he's generally non-plussed by my routines) as well as the routine being about strong women etc etc, oh yeah and the old 40's costume is so damned cool!

@diva I also thought it had possibly been done to death, but if we can only think of two acts between us that's definately not done to death I dont think, I mean everyone loves my leopard act and how many people do those!

Although recently everytime I've thought of a new routine, someone else has either done it two weeks before or does it two weeks after, so I suppose I better get sewing asap. Right now where would I get metallicised leather from.....
