    Default Sponsor?

    Hi there

Hope I don't sound naive by asking!

But you set up an event and you have a sponsor i.e. clothing company etc etc, what does this mean? I'm presuming it means they put money in but do then get it back in the profit? Or do they just sponsor as they get their name out there?

    Thanks!

Generally money in and they get exposure in return.

Always be honest with your clients, if you aren't they'll have false expectations of you and there's nothing worse for business than a client who's been sold some magic beans. Even more so when all they wanted was their picture taken.

Either the sponsor approaches you or you approach a list of companies that you would like to be associated with.

You need to set out clear expectations as to what the relationship will bring to each part of the business.

It works well for both parties if there's just the one sponsor I feel, I've been to events where there have been up to 5 different sponsors and they all set a stall up in the venue cluttering up the place, it's doesn't work well for either party. Get a relevant sponsor as well, I've heard of daft one's like an local car MOT centre sponsoring one show, ok the money's handy, but don't sell out to just anyone offering cash.
