"Golden Age" Burlesque Striptease in Britain - 1930s-1940s
On the back of the current thread about Dita Von Teese and the Golden Age Striptease style of burlesque (as opposed to the humour-filled British burlesque traditions), today I stumled upon a female, war-time, British variety performer by the name of Phyllis Dixey.

(Lesley-Ann Down playing Phyllis Dixey in "The One & Only Phyllis Dixey" (1978) - doesn't Lesley-Ann Down look remarkably like Julietta La Doll?!)
Though her work is never described as 'burlesque' in either of these articles, it sounds to me as though it would certainly be in-keeping with the American consolidation of burlesque humour and nudity (with, often, more nudity than humour) that came to characterise Stateside Golden Age Burlesque. Until today I'd not come across any British stage performers making American-style Golden Age burlesque numbers prior to the burlesque revivial. I suppose this is owing to all the books I've read focusing on the American perspective of burlesque's history, rather than burlesque and striptease in the UK post 1930.

She's beautiful and I like the stage she's on too, the way it frames her at the end.
