Lilly you are probably right. She does talk herself up to be bigger than she is but unfortunately people fall for it!

Don't worry too much Miss Scarlett, you have a great reputation and perform regularly despite the agent. I agree with previous comments, that they often only appear to be powerful - there is a vibrant burlesque scene happening in Australia and Tassie regardless. People's true colours will show in the end! xx

In addition even if the agent does have power it doesn't mean other performers haven't cottoned onto what an asshole they are. I know a few 'high ranking' industry people that are a laughing stock because of their unprofessionalism.

No-one can really blacklist you, there's always new avenues for work. You just have to be better than they are

There are a few performers I know have had issues with her. But I think it is the fear factor as to why they don't speak out.
Myself and a friend from another burlesque troupe Miss Kitty's Meow have actually been talking about forming some kind of burlesque union where people can come to get advise on legalities, contracts etc and standing united against bully agents such as the lady in question.

are you with equity? Would it be possible to go through them to do something about it? Or atleast for some advice? She sounds like a nasty piece of work. Hope she gets her comeuppance. x

No i'm in Australia don't think we have equity here, though I could be mistaken. I do believe there is a union for theatre performers but i've heard they're not much good. But she get whats coming. Karma is a bitch!

If there's another night going on in my area, I'll always try and help other promoters promote it (I even sell tickets for them!!)... It's better to work with others, than against them and it sounds like this agent is trying to undermine you the only (underhand) way they know how...

It sounds like they're trying devalue your work to others as they don't like/ want the competition... Keep up your good work and don't let this spoil your positivty! I'm sure those that this agent has bad-mouthed you to will already know what the score is...

The performer was awesome. She is one of the best In Australia. She toured all over Europe, performed at the London Burlesque Festival a few years ago and in the US. She is also a lovely person.
