    Default Being Breast Aware!!!

With October nearly upon us I thought I would just doing a little thread with regards to our "tools of the trade" so to speak!!

October is Breast Cancer awareness month - The past two years now the ladies in the group I sing with, Light n Shade, put on a show to raise money for Breast Cancer Campaign - so far we've raised over £3,000 - I won't go on too much about the show as this thread is intended to remind all you lovely ladies and gentlemen to make sure you examine your breasts on a regular basis - below are some tips on how to examine yourself:-

    Being breast aware
To be breast aware means becoming familiar with how your breasts look and feel. You should understand how your breasts may change at different times during the month and also as you get older. The important thing is to recognise which changes are usual and which are not and to make sure you know what is normal for you.

There are many reasons for changes in the breast and more often than not they will be harmless, but all of them need to be checked to ensure they are not the first signs of cancer. If a cancer is present the sooner it is detected the more simple and effective the treatment is likely to be.

You can help yourself by checking your breasts on a regular basis; follow the five point breast awareness code

Know what is normal for you
    Look and feel
Know what changes to look for
    Report any changes without delay
Attend routine breast screening if you are aged 50 and over
    Changes to look for
A lump or thickening which is different to the rest of the breast tissue
Continuous pain in one part of the breast or armpit

One breast becomes larger or lower
A nipple becomes inverted or changes shape or position
Skin changes including puckering or dimpling

Swelling under the armpit or around the collarbone

A rash on or around the nipple

Discharge from one or both nipples

Please, please, please check those breasts people.
