How do you transport large feather fans?
Hello Fabulous Folks,
I'm wondering how you transport your feather fans? I have ostrich feather fans and for the past few years I've just been storing them and transporting them in a soft sided bag. While this has been sufficient so far I'd love to use something hard sided.
I'm wondering what you all use to carry your fans and protect them.
Last night I shared a TINY dressing room with too many people and was concerned about them being tossed about. It didn't happen - but I'd rather protect my investment better.
Suggestions?
Mwah,

Hi honey I use something like this. Telescopic drawing tube - standard GREY/SILVER, OR BLACK: Amazon.co.uk: Toys & Games
I think mine was from an office supplier and was wider as my fans are triple feather so pretty thick.

You should maybe ask Marnie Scarlet [you can find her on Facebook - don't think she's on here] But she is always having to transport large feather fans and other props all over the place and on public transport too.. And they always look in great condition.

I have a custom made vintage velvet roll, that fastens with a tasseled braid & has my inital embroidered on - all homemade! ;-)

It occurs to me reading the above that the very heavy-duty cardboard tubes that fabric is rolled onto would make wonderful fan-cases. Think the centre of a loo-roll, but much longer , wider and harder ([oh err missus!].
Chat up your local fabric shop, or come and collect some free in Wimbledon if you're London-based.
Mine usually end up in the recycling bin, but my lovely lodger and I have been known to have mock sword-fights in the front garden with them, and my next-door neighbours' kids made a fabulous articulated robot from one once.

Exactly what i was just going to suggest
Poster tubes are great as they're sturdy & light. The one i have has a carry handle, a place to write your name (so you wouldn't loose it backstage) & it's also adjustable so you can alter it to fit all lengths of fan (from poster width upwards). I wish i could remember where I bought it now, but I'm sure any good art supplies shop should be able to get you one
Good luck!
