Creating a NEW Troupe... HELP!
Alright everyone... I need help.
I just moved back to my hometown, where I started my first burlesque troupe in 2009. When I left, the troupe disbanded and everyone moved away... When I came back I was bombarded with a plethera of requests for my troupe to perform... so I'm doing what any good performer does... I'm creating a new troupe! The only problem(s) is(are)...
1. I am having issues coming up with a new name.
We were Bare Ankle Burlesque... it was a GREAT name, but since the original proprietor is no longer with our troupe, I would like to give it a new name so that there are no preconcieved notions.
2. The girls showing intrerest have seen the movie BURLESQUE a few TOO many times and seem to be thinking it will be more of a semi-nude GLEE episode... not where I was headed with this at all... but I want them to stay interested! I was thinking of placating them a bit and allowing them to choreograph 1 or 2 numbers that way and then work them into a more traditional set... but I don't want them thinking that we will be doing this often...
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thank you!

You could always incorporate their routines as part of a 'Boston show' i.e. family friendly and let them work their way up to more traditional burlesque from there. It's good you don't want to slap your hands on the table and cry "boobies out now" or potential stars could head for the hills! Good luck xx
ooh a name...Decatur Provocateur

firstly get them to attend an intro burlesque class. enlighten them. Then show them different styles of burlesque. I found some aspects of the movie Burlesque terrible BUT the fans and the nude coverup with the microphones is pretty good.
Educate them and show them there is more to burlesque than a makeup heavy over singer warbling her way through a sequin heavy poor mans Cabaret. IMHO

We had our first meeting today! A wopping 4 people showed up... that including my friends 4 year old son....
ANYWHO! We came up with a pretty cool name; Rotten Apple Burlesque!
We're trying to do this right, so I will probably continue to post in this thread, seeing as I will most likely need more help. We don't have any classes or anything around here, and I don't even know how to go about getting certified to teach burlesque...Good girls rarely make history!
