Shadow of the Wind! I couldn't recommend a book more highly, completely absorbing and somewhat haunting. If you've not read it get your hands on a copy!!

I just finished the G-String Murders yesterday! It is full of typo's, but apart from that I thought it was really good.

    I would also recommend:

Gypsy: Memoirs of America's Most Celebrated Stripper
    Pretty Things (of course!)
Burlesque: Legendary Stars of the Stage
And Dita's book is another given!

    Not burlesque-related, but read:

The Master and Margarita (Mikhajl Bulgakov)
Spiegelgeschichte ['story in reverse'] (Ilse Aichinger)
The Rum Diary (Hunter S. Thompson)
The Buddha of Suburbia (Hanif Kureishi)
Die Blasse Anna ['pale Anna'] (Heinrich Böll)

    Good books, good books.

I beleive the film 'Lady of Burlesque' starring Barbara Stanwyck is based on the G-String Murders. It's a good film for a rainy afternoon and you can get it on DVD easily from Amazon.

Kitty Noir - I am currently reading Master and Margherita (in between Sherlock stories and a Vince McMahon biography...)

I'm flipping through pretty things (looking for costume inspiration) and reading wuthering heights & then Angela Carter's 'the bloody chamber'.
Waiting for the hay schedule to come out so I know what I need to read over the next two months to feel that I can hold my own :-) Love the place - but always come away with the feeling that I've missed out on a hundred great books.

Burlesque and the New Bump-n-grind is meant to be good but haven't read it yet.
