Travelling abroad
Hey guys!
We've had a couple of enquiries about doing some bits and pieces abroad. I'm wondering what's the best way to get any big or 'high risk' props to the shows? Also things like fuel for our fire work etc?
Any advice would be helpful!
Thanks

Hello Dolly Monster,
I would say it depends on what your 'big' props are. If its something fairly straight forward would it be worth seeing if you could hire it from the country you will be performing in?
For fire work I would definitely suggest getting it from a supplier when you are in the country you will be performing in, the venue/promoter of the event may be able to help you.
With any high risk props/shows check your contracts and make sure you are insured!!! Perhaps speak to Equity as well regarding all these things?

Hi
I'm actually in the process of acquiring my first 'big prop' at the moment, and I was going to ask the same question about transportation within the UK - does everyone tend to drive themselves in a van etc. and take their props with them, or do you use couriers?

I replied like a week ago but It seems to have vanished!! :S
Thanks for your advice Alexandra! It's the awkward props like the bed of nails that I'm mostly concerned over taking. My dad's suggested just packing all our stuff up in a flight case and sending it over freight but I think it's gonna cost a fair bit. I'll definitely look into getting the fuel while over there or even ordering some to be sent ahead of us.
The insurance is something I need to look into. We hold PLI for £2million for everything we do but I need to check that It is valid abroad.
Jenni I'm quite lucky as my dad has a massive van so If we need a lot of gear or any big gear moving he's really good with it. Have a shout out around you friends and see if anyone has a van or is able to rent a van that wouldn't mind escorting you to a few shows for petrol money and a couple of drinks (none alcoholic if driving :P).
