how much is it worth?
Hi everyone,
I'm not too sure of this is the right for this forum but I thought it was worth a wee shot.
As many of you may already know the Public Entertainment Licence Laws in Scotland are currently changing and may of our venues and smaller events are being threatened by closure if these changes are set in stone. I’m currently mid writing a presentation about the pros and cons of these license laws for music nights and theatre/cabaret events and have been encouraged to include some details on what the cabaret/burlesque industry is worth in the UK.
I’ve found the music industry details easily enough through PRS and was wondering if any one could point me in the right direction for the burlesque and cabaret side of things? I’ve been trawling the net for hours and can’t find anything that’s cemented and can prove that the industry is growing (or declining) financially, and would really appreciated some help!!
Thanks in advance!!

how much is it worth?
Hi everyone,
I'm not too sure of this is the right fourm, or if any one will know let alone if theres one answer, but I thought it was worth a wee shot.
As many of you may already know the Public Entertainment Licence Laws in Scotland are currently changing and may of our venues and smaller events are being thtreatne by closure if this is made permanant. Although there are benifits towards this and there are certain allowances being made for the smaller buisness there are still many problems w

Just out of interest, what is the basic position in England? Read the article in the London Evening Standard the other day about a Parents' Association objecting to a burlesque-themed fund-raiser, and I have a girl-friend who is currently putting together a charity night and also in talks with a local venue, so really interested to know. I know there have been a couple of previous posts on this, but I can't find them.
Ta!

At the moment, local councils have the power to decide what classes as "sexual entertainment", on a case by case basis. Although the general schpeel says that it usually involves nudity, it is stated that it can be "stimulating" in any way, even only verbal, and classed as SE. So a council does have the power to decide that burlesque is sexual, and would thus need to be licensed that way. However, if the sexual entertainment occurs 11 times a year, no more often than once a month, the venue does not need a license, so most events are fine anyway xxxx
