Question for the singers
Have you ever purchased or download an instrumental version of a song and been struck by how different it is from the full blown full vocals version?
I have a song I am singing at SSSSH (Silk Stocking Striptease Show) and the instrumental version is rather different and it throws me off a little because I find myself thinking "how I got my timings right?"
Every instrumental version of this song I've found is the same even from the £25 a track kind of places.WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

Yes, it definitely happens. They just take a bit longer to learn. I hate it more when you get a track and it just sounds... cheesy is the only way I can put it. The radio edits of songs are so well produced and often backing tracks sound a bit plinky plonk in comparison.
I wanna be Evil that I'm singing at the LBF still has one note I can't fathom. The note it should be just clashes horribly and I can't find where they think the note should be instead lol. Fortunately its a word I can get away with missing
It could even be the version you know isn't the original, who knows? But, yes it does happen
Some pro singers can be very snobby about them but I've found some of the better tracks I've bought were from the main karaoke brands rather than expensive backing track companies. The main difference is the range of songs you can get and what they can do with them, bt companies win hands down there, but karaoke tracks are much quicker to learn as you can have the whole words on the screen bit on the pc.

It's not the words I'm having problems with frankly I learn lyrics quickly I always have done. It's more a case of I've been listening to the radio edit to learn the lyrics and timings of the song, I then played the kareoke version and noticed the song just stops in places It may be that the orginal does this but you don't notice because of the backing vocal. Also this version ends sooner than the radio edit.
It's a wierd track I can't seem to find a version that is perfect. The kareoke versions don't have the backing vocals on and the professional backing track versions I have found sound really plinky plonky almost like a polyphonic ringtone.
I don't know I'll go through it a few times and if it's not working I may just drop this song and replace it with another one.

Backing vocals can make a big difference in sound when they're not there. Long term solution would be to record some backing vocals onto the track I guess, but there's usually a version out there somewhere with them on
Want to pm me what it is on the off-chance i have a version?

I hate midi synthesised tracks. I have a guy that makes me 'realtrack' versions of tunes with actual musicians/real instruments when i dont have a live band. Costs more, but it's worth it. Plus, a lot of the stuff i sing is more obscure - there just aren't premade tracks out there. Using someone who will make a track exactly as you want it eliminates the problem you are having and ups the quality...

Dare I ask how much your guy can do custom real tracks for? I'm always on the hunt for a solid source of good obscure tracks
