S.o.p.h.i.e
Ok i know this isnt burlesque but its something i feel really strongly about and im sure many people on here will agree with.
By now i expect that most people have heard about the Sophie Lancaster case finally getting to court, and the two young boys are waiting to be sentenced.
If not this is a link to one of many vids of the news report:
YouTube - Sophie Lancaster - Goth Killers Get Life -
This is a petition being sent to the government to get them to change the law about hate crime so that it covers hate crimes over the way people dress and what music they listen to. Not just goth but any type of discrimination due to appearance to be treated in the same way hate crime is dealt with whether it is due to sex, race, religion... ect
The petition closes tonight so get your signature in whilst its still open.
Petition to: Widen the definition of 'Hate Crime', to include crimes committed against a person or persons, on the basis of their appearance or subcultural interests.
Im sure many of you are sick of having things shouted at you because you dress differently, but when it turns into violence it turns to unacceptable. People should be able to dress however they want and be treated with respect, Sophie died protecting her boyfriend from some morons who decided that due to there dress they were to be victimized, and i dread to think how many more cases there are of people getting assaulted due to the way that they dress, i know i have been. Assaults like this need to be viewed in the same way as other hate crime, and need to be acted on accordingly.
Thanks for reading.

I've only just read this thread and it's too late to sign up but I hope it's got enough weight behind it already. That was a heartbreaking story. I never imagined in all the jests I've experienced that anyone would seriously be subjected to anything of such a heinous nature. My suspicion is that anyone crossing the paths of this gang would have fallen foul to their approval, they clearly had a blood thirst and I don't think this case will leave anyone's minds for a very long while. My thoughts are with the girls b/f, her family and friends and if I see a similar petition in the future I'll be sure to sign up. Anything to promote free will and, essentially safety to live freely.
