Some Burlesque Clubs are Against MoB??!!
As I email people and find burlesque clubs that I havn't even heard of before on the internet, three times now some have come back to me and said:
"Im sorry but we don't do business with people who are involved with The Ministry of Burlesque".
I always stick up for MoB, I always ask why and to be honest Im not as involved with The Ministry of Burlesque as I would like to be anyway.
Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know why? Im rather bemused!?WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

Hi Leila,
If you're a good enough performer, you're going to get the bookings. Simple as that. Nobody has the power to put you on some mythical blacklist. Not us, not other people - nobody.
Politics between people are often unavoidable, but people seem to be lending a lot more credence to them than us. Since we adopted our zero-tolerence approach to the increasing amount of in-fighting, it has completely disappeared from our boards. If people feel the need to talk about half stories elsewhere then who are we to stop them?
I honestly wouldn't worry about it in the slightest. The burlesque scene is much bigger than a couple of promoters and there are plenty of people who will love to have you perform.

Hey sweetpea could you maybe email me and let me know the names of the clubs, in complete confidence of course? Just cos I've encountered a couple of funny attitudes from some people in the burlesque world myself since I joined the agency, and when I talk about the MoB. I've been wondering if it was just me being a paranoid delusional. But they haven't come directly out and said anything, it's just a feeling I keep getting.

Yip I have had it to honey its sad but true. Its just crap I love to perform and some of the clubs that have put up this ban are good clubs. It makes me feel really frustrated as there is no way round it.

this old fish
hey ladies ...
there are a few promotors who have a policy of not hiring people "in" with the MOB ...
i agree its totaly unfair but to be honest who wants to work for people who judge you by who you have shared a stage with ...
these promotors have been consistently disapointing in fullfilling their promises of photos and future work and treat performers like cattle....
in future try and get gigs on your own merit rather than mentioning the MOB - unless they ask .. for some promotors it is definately a bonus...
feel free to PM me for any advice - i have had dealings with almost all of them.!!!

According to whats being discussed on another forum, it's not just MoBstars who are being blacklisted. It's people who use the forum as well.
Ok so some people don't agree with the way the MoB do business but it's not fair to the members to be punished. The MoB is THE site to go on and get yourself known. It's also a great place to learn new things and get advice. If you take out the fact that I use Myspace for a lot of my networking, how are new performers supposed to get noticed and get work? How are new clubs supposed to know who to book and how much a performer should be paid?

I've had a similar experience but only with one promoter.
I agree that if a promoter is not prepared to look beyond who you are affiliated with then I really dont want to work with them.
At the end of the day it is their loss. In terms of the politics I find it is always best to keep well out of it and to concentrate on what you love which is performing burlesque.
MOB have shown me nothing but the greatest support and understanding in my burlesque career. In fact because of this they are pretty much solely responsible for me having achieved what I have so far. Whatsmore MOB have always been totally honest and open with me about any and every issue I've asked about.
At the end of the day each situation is different and it's for the individual to judge, but personally I think, if in doubt, ask advice(as Red has kindly offered) - that's what I did and what I would do again if the situation arose.

more fish
It is completely unfair to james and kittie as well who constantly get the blame for any kind of controversy.
they are tirelessly trying to educate people as to what real burlesque is about - and obviously many people take offense saying that the MOB thinks its the be all and end all of burlesque.....
i have never had such a dedicated agent or promotor as kittie
yes she is contraversial but only in the sense that she wont tolerate the misuse of the term "burlesque" for anyones purpose.
she is true to what she beleives in and i find that admirable.
PS - other forum ? what ? where?

It's been upsetting people on the BWI as well. Gehenna made a list of all BWI users that also use the MoB, as a demostration of the people that would be excluded due to being associated with the mob. It was quite a long, scary list! He is also understandably upset about the way Angel LaVey has recently been treated.

Hey Sarah. I know what you're saying, and I don't know about Leila but I don't exactly make a song and dance about being involved with the MoB when I send my details to promoters, I just mention them as part of the list of burlesque and cabaret agencies I'm with, which includes two others as well as MoB, and I don't especially emphasise the MoB one above the others. It's more just a passing mention really. The vast majority of my application is my biography and act descriptions, and where I've played.
