Newbie in need of assistance
:Hey you gorgeous creatures,
I've only recently come round to the idea that computers are not evil and gonna take over the world terminator style( although I,m not entirely convinced) so I'm not at all used to all this and little bit scared.
Also I'd love to become a burlesque performer but feel a bit lost. Can anyone tell me how you make sure your not using someone elses stage name? xxx:WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

Hey! There are quite a few threads on choosing names, i've popped a few below.
http://www.ministryofburlesque.com/b...sque-name.html
http://www.ministryofburlesque.com/b...se-please.html
http://www.ministryofburlesque.com/b...-stealing.html
(i think the last one might get a firey but there is some useful opinions too)
Your best bet is to turn to google and search variants of your chosen name to make sure it doesn't come up with any performers. Then if you really want to make sure, pop it up on here and we can normally find out for you
Glad you've joined the interwebs revolution...

Yeah... I'm having issues with a name, but I'm sticking with this (rather unoriginal one) until I can think of something better. Of course I did the searches to try my best to make sure I wasn't stepping on anyone's toes... and all it came up with was an 80s soap character, hehe.

ooh so what ahppens if you google and search for someone with a name but cant find it...
i thought of my name, googled it/yahoo'd it etc and no one came up...which i was surprised at!
any one heard of Miss May Hemm?
argh it would be good if there was a register you could serach like you can with business names!

Don't forget about how a name will sound when announced, so spelling variations often don't count as a different name...

Miss May Hemm, i'm pretty sure there is a DJ called Miss Mayhem but the only Miss Mayhem I can find on myspace is an unrelated 'normal' lady in California!
It is however quite a popular roller derby name

I think you're pretty safe with it for burlesque

I'm loving Miss May Hemm, sounds fabulous.
I'm also thinking possibly of 'Daisy Chains'... but I guess it's not something that needs to be worried about until I'm ready to perform. =]
