Any teachers out there (academic)?
Hey there! Long time no post. Anyhoo Im back from my long academic-related seclusion and wondering how many of you are teachers? What age do you teach? How do you handle doing burly and teaching? Does it cause problems?
Im going to be training to be a college lecturer in September so am giving it alot of thought, gathering opinions and experiences on how the two mix and if indeed they can!WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

I'm training to be a teacher

Primary school age.
Seeing as I've never performed, and it looks like I will never have the funds TO perform, it doesn't cause much trouble. I do get a lot of photos done though and i guess that could, if they were ever uncovered.
Oh well

Hi honey
I have some experience not as a proper teacher but from working in schools. I talked to a lot of the teachers I worked with before I gave it up and they all said they would not be happy with there being an association with burlesque and teaching. You need to be very careful what kind of pictures you have on line or video. There is no way in this day and age that schools or collages would approve of you doing burlesque. Sorry to put a downer on this but this has been my experience and I worked in lots of different schools and collages of all ages and they all said the same.
Lovely to have you back hon.

I think the same, although I do know some people in Manc who got the ok (oddly), but even still, I dont think I would like it. EVen if the college were ok, and the parents, it would still undermine your role. I have taken down my footage and made private my facebook/myspace, closer to the time I will have to take down my website (sob) and probably take down all my photos. I really dont want to stop doing gigs entirely though. Its such a shame.

I teach English to adults which can be awkward sometimes because they often ask me what I do outside of school and whilst I try to skirt around my Burlesque antics by saying I'm merely a dancer, they keep asking questions and they go find information out themselves. It hasn't happened yet, but one day a group of my students will turn up to a show and see my boobs, which I don't really care about. I'm more concerned about bosses in schools where I work finding out. I know they would most likely terminate my employment. So my advice to you is keep your Burlesque life to yourself and pray your students never find out where your performing.

Hi honey
I don't want you to stop either you are one of the burlesque ladies out there that make me laugh. To be honest I really don't think you would need to stop as your routines are funny and I have never seen you take your bra off, you don't tassel do you? I think if you are careful with what is seen on line so all images are you with your kit on you should be fine. I have met a few teachers out there and they are all in the same boat.
I am good thank you honey am taking a week off and also have the weekend off its great. I have lots of new acts I would love you to see, have missed seeing you around.
Hugs
