Burlesque Dating
Ok so seeing as I am newly single...EEERRR!!!!! I was wondering how people find dating? In the past I have come across guys who find it hard to comprehend that I adore burlesque/performing....does anyone else find it hard to meet someone who embraces your burlesque?

Mine does.... now...
To begin with he thought it was a just another lap dance/strip style thing.
It threw him a bit to begin with but after seeing live shows and having me try out routine ideas he's pretty much accepting and enjoying it. Although saying that I've not performed in front of a large crowd yet....

The last boyf liked the costumes but wasn't exactly supportive.
I really don't know. A very dear friend of mine has had trouble with it in the past and although the guy turned upto events he seethed with jelousy and actually turned out to be a doosh.
I think it's probably best to introduce the idea of burly slowly unless they come to a gig.

Most of my boyfriends are musicians... it makes it so much easier as the jobs are so similar in many ways! They're not usually the type to get jealous of fans and work similar hours; and know what it is to have a stage persona separate to your real life...

I think that just like with any other dating situation, it helps when the guy/girl shares some of your interests to begin with, or at least has a fairly positive view of what you're into. While I'm definitely more shy off stage and generally hide my being a burlesque performer from day job situations, I would often invite all my friends (and would-be friends) to shows as an immersive introduction into my world. Of course, not everyone would be into burlesque, but for me it's a pretty quick and easy way to filter out those who would be understanding and appreciative of my hobby/lifestyle.

Luckily, my boyfriend loves burlesque. We were already together, when I started performing and he encouraged me to go for it. I think a lot of people react funny until they've seen it and know what it's on about.
I have to agree with Vicky, musicians or other people who are involved in creative things are more likely to be cool about it.

My boyfriend is fine with it. I have a really exciting shoot coming up and I'm going to be body painted, so obviously will be nude, and he said straight away that it's my choice and he's supportive of whatever I want to do.
I find a lot of guys like the whole burlesque thing, but then again I've met all mine at rock clubs and I guess that subculture is a bit more open minded in general
