Plastic fan staves....
I was wondering if someone could help. I normally use bamboo staves for my fans as I like the movement on stage they give. However they are not as strong as plastic staves and def. not as hard wearing if you use them constantly!
I can get hold of plastic staves from Ostrich.com but they seem to be rather expensive. Does anyone else know of anywhere else I can buy plastic staves? I need to move my rainbow fans on to them as they are sooooo heavy and the staves have decided they don't like the number of feathers I use per stave!
Thanks

Oh, I wanna know this too actually as I feel the staves on mine are a bit flimsy too, plus, I like the look of the clear staves better. *watches thread intently*

Try this one:
The Feather Place -- FANS AND FAN STAVES
£2.50 for a box of 8 which are 14 inches long.

Be aware that plastic staves may make your fans heavier than bamboo. I currently use acrylic staves and one set of fans which I made myself (my stained glass ones) are extremely heavy and unwieldy! Plus if you're the opposite to me and have little hands the bulkiness of the staves is quite difficult to handle and can make your hands ache. But you don't have to worry about holding the staves open as you perform, which is a bonus - but also means you can't do quick close and open moves!

Hi Miss Diamond Blush
I'm not sure where to buy plastic staves but I do have to agree with the other ladies; they make the fans A LOT heavier and I don't think they move nearly so nicely through the air as bamboo ones. I attended a fan workshop recently and a few of the girls had a shot of my large, plastic-staved fans and they found them very uncomfortable and difficult to use.
I had actually been wondering recently if you used bamboo staves for your double-layer fans, as I thought they would struggle with the weight of the feathers.
My own suggestion is wooden staves, which you can make yourself. They are sturdier than the bamboo but lighter than the plastic ones. I make mine out of a simple garden trellis; sawn up and screwed together then fanned out and connected with ribbon. It's quite time-consuming but I definitely prefer them to the plastic ones.
Good luck anyways!

I think I might get some small ones made with the acrylic ones before I swap my big ones then. I didn't realise the clear ones are actually heavier than bamboo, the fans staying open by themselves would be a bonus though. Thanks for the tips girls.

These are more for my ex-large fans the rainbow ones as they are very heavy already! I also want to make some of the fans with the feather boas that end up very heavy as they are apparently 3 plastic staves together to make a long one!!! ... better start weight training ;-)

Sorry to hijack the thread but does anyone know where I can buy some bamboo staves as last night my lovely mate broke on of the staves by accident....bless him. He was so upset and apologetic.
Note to self. Never let Micky pack the car.
