    Question Balloon Dance advice

At our benefit event we are planning to have one of our girls be covered in balloons. Could you please give me advice on how the balloons are attached to the clothing? What are the best type of things to wear? Any other tips that you can give, that you only get from having done it, would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you! xx

Here's a really good thread on it where people were discussing numbers of balloons and length of music and other stuff:

    http://www.ministryofburlesque.com/b...lloon-pop.html

And check out balloon pop on Youtube for some wonderful routines to inspire you. Mysti Vine's and Dirty Martini's are good ones to start you thinking

I think from previous threads the opinion is the best thing to attach the balloons with is safety pins so they don't fall off by the time you get to the stage and the pins aren't as ugly as bits of tape or string when the balloons have popped (hey, you could even do a punk rock balloon pop and be left in an outfit not dissimilar to Liz Hurley's famous one....)

    Doesn't it just suck!

I'm so glad kids are back. The older ones have been driving me mad shouting and swearing at each other on the field at the front of the house. Giggling and shouting on the bus. Hanging out in packs everywhere I look.

What's the point in free time if it is permeated by gangs of 14 year old chavs swilling Lambrini and White Lightning?

You can pin them directly on a bra and knickers, buy a packet of those teeny tiny safety pins.
Buy twice as many balloons as you think you'll need (all in one colour looks better) as they will pop.
If possible, blow them up in advance, or bring a helper to blow them up for you.
(You don't want to ruin your lipstick or get out of breath before the show)
Sometimes, I string the balloons up using a needle and thread, which works pretty well.

For my first balloon dance, I constructed a ribbon dress to attach the balloons to.
It looked great when I was covered in balloons, but once they were popped, I was left wearing a ribbon and dead balloon dress that was very difficult to remove.
Not only that, but, because the balloons were attached to a moving dress, I had a bugger of a time trying to pop the ones at the back, because they kept moving away from me.
Don't bother trying that one, definitely not worth the effort.

Make sure you keep the popping pin somewhere handy.
I've put pin in the finger of a glove, so it looks like I'm popping with my finger.
Also, I've used a hairpin, a rose and a cigarette.

Oh, and be careful about giving the pin to an audience member.
It make be cute to get them to pop one, but put the pin in the hands of the wrong person and you may have all your balloons popped well before you are ready.

Good luck in your balloon dance!

Fantastic advice - but trust me from organising loads of charity events where we had to blow up loads of balloons, don't make it harder on yourself than you have to. Buy a cheap balloon pump, or two so you can get someone to help you and save you energy

    One's like these:

Balloon Air Pump - Qualatex Double Action on eBay, also Balloons Decorations, Party Items Supplies, Celebrations Occasions, Home Garden (end time 04-Sep-08 20:59:42 BST)

    or these:

2 HAND OPERATED BALLOON PUMPS, RIGID PLASTIC DESIGN on eBay, also Balloons Decorations, Party Items Supplies, Celebrations Occasions, Home Garden (end time 05-Sep-08 10:41:32 BST)

ie. round ones that say they are dual action, not the flatter ones that come with cheap balloon modelling kits and they don't work as well.

I use safty pins but not the very small ones as some ballons fell of once! I also use a ballon pump and hellium canister. I can not blow balloons up at all!

And what about if you're (nearly) nude under the balloons? I can't imagine safety pins being much help there. I for one have put off even thinking about a balloon pop until I can work out a way of attaching the things that doesn't look ridiculous once they're all popped!

Excellent! Thank you for such good advice. Some of it seems obvious when you read it but you know you will never actually think of it!
    You are all gorgeous!
