EEEEK finally told my mum about my weekend away...sort of....:worried:

As most of you already know, December and I are going to Silk Stocking and Hot Muffins (in exactly 3 weeks people!!!) Unfortunately, my parents arent going to accept my love of burlesque so I told them Im going to a dance and cabaret show with friends I met on a dance forum....kinda true, right?

She freaked out a little-she for some reason thinks Im gonna end up in prison for drug smuggling (maybe theres something you'd like to tell me December? lol)...She watched some made for TV movie about a girl who ended up in prison in the Far East after meeting someone on the internet recently...think I need to restrict her tv viewing.

Anyway, basically, I feel guilty for not telling the whole truth... :cry:

Why not tell her the truth? Burlesque is very, very non-threatening really, and even my old, Conservative, Daily-Mail-reading mum loved our Muffins night!

Maybe bring her along?

PS: If you need to dignify burlesque, you can tell her it's run by an art history lecturer (aka: me!).

I can understand why you don't tell her though. I haven't told my mum (though she records anything she sees on TV that's related to burlesque for me, so I think she may have twigged!) and I could never tell my Grandma! I tell her the same thing- that it is a dance and vintage lifestyle thing.

She still changes the channel when people kiss on TV if Im watching with her

Although she did say she'd like to go to Birmingham (despite the fact I took her there for a weekend and she HATED it lol)

Sometimes honesty is the best policy.....why not explain what its all about, show her this forum etc and then give her contact details where you will be.

I'm sure she would prefer that and it would ease your mind.

Oh she knows - trust me on that one, my ma was completely unsurprised when she found out about me, you can't get owt past em!

She knows too - she'll have put two and two together, they're wily, those old folk!

I'm pretty sure they do. Especially my mum, but she would be fine with it anyway.

Ive given her a rough break down of my itinerary Deb so she knows where I'll be and that...Shes ok bout the bellydancing but this is different :worried:

Look on the bright side, at least your Mum doesn't know that the Birmingham show is run by me - if she found that out I suspect she'd lock you in the attic/cellar/loo and throw away the key.
