Default name ideas for burlesque society(ARU-Cambridge)?

    Hello! ^_^

I'm setting up a burlesque society and im in a bit of a pickle. Im not sure whether it should be a society or a club. While a 'club' sounds inticing, a 'society' would be just as good. I was also contemplating humorous abreviations etc.. such as Anglia Ruskin Society of Entertainment(A.R.S.E) but it sounds so unlady like.

    Could anybody help me?

argh it's hard naming societies, i was in loads at uni and even created my own 'Cirque du Soc' lame i know

My favourite was Newcastle University Department English Society... with my fantastic t-shirt 'NUDES'

If it's for a uni check what the benefits of being a society is compared to a club. At my first uni, a club could only be athletics related for example the rowing club.

Amelie raises vital points! Check out the official difference between 'societies' and 'clubs' as unis are notoriously beaucratic as I'm sure you know!

I do love your acronym idea though! Get a good one a people are bound to be interested!

    All the best honey!"

I just had a look on the uni website for all the techie stuff and I think that it would be more fitting to be a society(seeing as no-one that I know is commited to the gym!)

So, at the moment it's Anglia Ruskin Burlesque Society. Boring I know, but it's all I could muster (Oh, my inspiration has left me for a fitter, younger mind!)

    A.R.S.E. sounds good to me...

Or you could go back to what ARU used to be (before Essex ruined a very good little college in the late 80's) with 'The Black CCAT Society'?

Are you still coming to our 'do', Violette? I have a guest pass for you... I can't make it to Salon Rouge on 20th Sept as I have a wedding to DJ at Trinity, but other members of our 'crew' will be infiltrating... let me know if you do get a 'Soc' going, we'll give you discount admission just like RockSoc and GothSoc are getting.

I'm also thinking of setting up a burlesque society at Uni.

Let me know how it all pans out. We could help each other out

OK - back in the beginning (from 1960) was Cambridge College of Arts and Technology (CCAT), an excellent technical college equipping students with skills to do a job, as opposed to the academic main University of Cambridge. Notably, the novelist Tom Sharpe was a lecturer there from 1963 - 72 and based his three 'Wilt' novels on it...
