Variety is the spice of life. Could you imagine if we all did the same style of Burlesque. How boring would the shows be? The audience would be asleep after the first round.
Everything is great to one extend.

I absolutely love the idea of your act Emerald and the amount of creativity you must have put into that. Actually acts that are different and creative are far more interesting.

Is it not better to go to a Burlesque show not knowing what exactly to expect? I love the little surprise factor.

Hmmm... somebody said this in a thread earlier. I have a feeling it was Michelle. Now I can't find it and I think I'm going mad.

Definitely, it's like those muppets that put enraged comments on YouTube videos like "but she didn't remove her stockings, that's a cardinal sin of burlesque!" and "she's not wearing a corset - it's not burlesque".
Neither your lady or these muppets would recognise burlesque in any of it's many vaudevillian guises if it came up and smacked them one in their self-righteous faces.

P.S. I can think of nothing cuter than an Octopus routine! You have to bring it up North!

Eek, I just wanna give you a heads up that I was planning on having an Octopus girl in my next show and I don't want you to think I'm copying you!
I'm gonna pm you the details of my act so I can make sure that they're not too simialr, mine is pretty crazy so I don't think it will be. Who would have thought there would be 2 octopus routines out there eh?

As for your frizzy haired friend, I wouldn't worry about it too much hon, there's always one hater at every show. Good for your sister for standing up to her! I doubt that she's a performer herself, she's probably never been to see a burlesque show in her life, it sound to me like she was just trying to save face.

Anyway, expect a pm coming your way.

Out of interest - if you could ask Dita any question at all, no holds barred, what would any of you ask? x

    What's your pin number?

(I would then proceed to steal her handbag and run very fast)

No seriously......"Dita, do you honestly, honestly, honestly never have a day when you just can't be bothered and you slum it in baggy joggers and over-sized t-shirt with no make-up on?"

I know that's a terrible closed yes/no question, but I've always wondered if it were really true that she lives glamour 24/7

If you don't put that on every future press release/your website/myspace I think many of us here will be disappointed.

As for the "I could do that" (Yosser Hughes, anyone?)... I was talking to one of my friends a while ago, and she mentioned she'd met someone who was seeing "some stripper." I could see what was coming a mile away, mostly from the snotty tone she said it with, and was hardly surprised when my "a stripper?" was met with, "you know.... [to save insulting anyone I'll leave the name out]" As politely as I could, considering she's my friend and I didn't really want to rant at her, I said "she's not a stripper, she's a burlesque performer" (or something like that). She just said "well you know what I mean, she's still a stripper...and anyway I could do all that burlesque stuff." I found it very difficult to just sit and smile and not scream WELL WHY THE BLOODY HELL DON'T YOU THEN? Nothing's stopping you!!!
