Tableau vivant???
Righty then, I've decided that at the minute I'm far too nervous to consider doing a full burlesque routine on stage (I know I know I'll do it eventually!) but I feel like venturing out from behind the bar....
The lovely Golden De Licous started out doing tableau vivant I believe and to me it actually looks like a more gentle introduction to the stage.
I've got plenty of 3 set storyboard ideas written up and set to music that are waiting to be tried, I'm just not sure if they'd go down well? I mean Golden has facial expressions that I'm sure she pinched from Tommy Cooper (sorry Golden!) and they're fantastic, I'm just nervous!
I like being behind the safety of the 'landlady' title and hiding at the end of the bar or prancing between tables, I'm just itching to push myself further.
Help!!!!!

Hi Kitten
I know exactly how you feel - I've got my first full performance coming up in the beginning of December and I'm already fending off terror! :worried:
However if you don't mind advice from your fellow terrified person, by the sound of things you've got the hard part done already. You've got the ideas and worked them into a story board with music, now you just need to have faith in your material and in yourself - remember how hard you've worked on this and why you thought the ideas in your set were good ones, those ideas still hold good! If you are concerned about them though don't be shy about showing your story boards to more experienced Burlesquers, all of the ones that I know are more than happy to provide help, suggestions for improvement and encouragement. Have fun and practice loads - I'm finding that just practising helps raise my confidence a bit, it's easier to feel more comfortable with an act once it's firmly lodged in your head (although take a break if you begin to get sick of it - this is supposed to be fun).
And as I said earlier, burlesque is fun  - make sure that you enjoy what you are doing and don't be shy about showing the audience that you are enjoying performing and you're half way there to making sure you go down well (at least so I've been told and watching experienced people on stage I do agree - all the acts I like are acts where the person on stage is obviously having fun).
As I said, that's some of the advice I've been given and it seems (hopefully) to be working so far when I get an attack of nerves - although I suppose only time and the audience will tell! :worried:
Best of luck Kitten , although given how far you've already got I doubt very much that you'll need it !

Hi Bea - thanks for the interest! I'm debuting at one of the shows that Viva's organising over in Glasgow on Thursday 4th December. I'm afraid I can't remember the venue name just now but I can double check with Viva and let you know nearer the time if you would like to come (all moral support gratefully received :help

Aww you're a love! I'm just used to hiding behind the scary landlady persona I guess! Think it's time that I put a foot up my own arse and sorted something out.
Thanks for the kick, hope your debut goes well xxxxx

Hello again Lilly (and sorry for misspelling your name before) - funnily enough, I am actually helping to organise that show along with the fabulous Harlequin Kiss (whom I don't believe is on the MoB site yet). Of course I only just found this out! The performance nights are fabulous, really lovely warm audiences, great performances, and an excellent community atmosphere - plus the Panopticon is the most amazing venue ever! Will look forward to meeting you there (if not before). xxx

Tableaux vivant literaly means living picture .
i did a workshop at the international workshop festival a few years ago we re created some famous works of art with backdrops and drapage .....
the living statue is something i have been doing since i was 18, thats over 12 years !!
you have to be sure that you keep good posture when you are standing still otherwise back trouble later in life !!!
the time for tease ladies have the gateaux vivant girls as a regular feature in their events where the girls pose with cakes covering thir bits and pieces !!
choose a work of art / character / or stroy image you would like to get across and give it a go - you could be tableaux ing whilst people are arriving to your burlesque night . its always worth trying something different as long as its interesting or entertaining , its a great start
best of luck
