    Default Fetish and burlesque?

    Hi All,

I recently went to a burlesque/fetish night in Norwich (where i live) as the lovely darkteaser was performing.

Now i don't mind the fetish scene and don't have a problem with it but it seems recently the burlesque things i want to go to or well can go to have people dressed in PVC and a bit goth/fetish.

I'm just wondering if burlesque and fetish are hand in hand these days?

When i first got into burlesque, i loved the thought of a smokey club with burlesque acts, some jazz/swing music playing in between the acts, people dressed to the nines.

I know smokey clubs can't exsist due to the ban, but i can't seem to find places like this?

Again not saying it's bad, but i would like to also attend a more tradional (if that's the word) club.

Also why i'm here i might as well continue my questions :-) hope you don't mind.

I'm trying to get a foot onto the ladder at the moment, every wednesday i attend a burlesque class and i've loved it for so long, also trying to get into pin up modeling.

But nights i want to go to, not performing, but just nights out to mingle with like minded people and catch the shows of course, i just can't afford it.

I don't know how people have the money to buy these lovely outfits and travel accross the uk going to shows and performing?

I don't have a corset at the moment and can't even afford to get one for £40 (you don't need to play the violens or anything) just wondering what people do.

I work in an office 9-5 and live with my fella, but don't have much money left over monthly, i'm trying to get a better paid job, but it's holiday as well, as most nights are during the week and i need a day or two off to travel.

I don't want money etc to get in the way of somthing i'm passionate about but just dont' know how to resolve it?

    Sorry for rambling on :-)

    Thanks xxx

You should come to the Midlands honey. There's so many fantastic nights here & they're all reasonably priced.

    Red Rocks
    Silk Stocking Striptease Show
    Cherry Pop
    Appleby Burlesque
and of course who could forget the original Candybox!

Prices start from around £6 if memory serves me right & these have more of the atmosphere i think you are looking for.

Let me know if you want anymore info & im sorry if i've missed anyone out :duck:

I think it depends very much on where you are - fetish and burlesque can be intertwined (Bettie Page for example) but it's not a regular or inevitable thing as far as I know.

Certainly the Edinburgh scene tends to be much more traditional, as you put it, than the scene you are describing in East Anglia - although from what I hear the London scene is kind of similar to edinburgh, can you afford to travel that far to go to the clubs you want to see?

Sheffield is south you ignoramuses !!

    Birmingham is practically France!!

Newcastle aint even really north - Scotland's where it's REALLY grim oop north !!

Ive performed at fetish and burlesque events all round Europe and there certainly is more crossover these days.

Which is good in one way as its broadening both scenes, but then again maybe both scenes are also good when they don't include the other "half".

You definitely see things at a "full on" fetish show that you would NEVER see at a burlesque show though ... believe me !!
