Default A World Class Can-Can Championship!

    Okay, gang...here's a wierd idea.

Ministry of Burlesque should consider a world wide contest that could bring publicity and attention to the burlesque scene.

Where or who ever holds a big burlesque festival--in the United Kingdom, OFFER A CAN-CAN COMPETITION!

There are a lot of groups where you are:

    Les Ooh La la las
    Cancan Boheme
    The French Kicks
    The Delectable Dancing Dollies
French Fling with Gypsy, Viva and Lucky.

We could call out the talent from around the world...
    Troupes from Paris...

From Canada, I can think of Sweet Sould Burlesque Can-Can Troupe..
    The Saucy Tarts or Toronto.

    From the United States:
The Satin Dollz of Los Angeles,
    Panty Raid or Nashville,
Madame Gigi's Outrageous French Can-Can Dancers of Ohio,
Jenny Rocca Can-can Dancers of New York

And any number troupe you can think of:
Some sponsors can either award a big cash prize as part of the event's big weekend.

    Any thoughts?

Yeah... sorry to be picky, but may I suggest looking up the countries that make up the United Kingdom? United Kingdom - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

We Scots get ourselves all offended when we're left out!

    I'm very sorry. I apologize.

So what do you think? Does it have potential?

Miss Carrie, you must have some opinion which I would gladly welcome.

    Ahem!

    Wales is jolly nice!

I can recommend a fabulous venue!

    Welcome to Maes Manor Hotel

The ballroom can seat up to 220 people and the ceiling is completely covered in fairylights. Its lush!

    Thank you.

It's one thing to hold this competition, but it's another to package it to make it apealing for those who want to visit.

Say, for instance, the Competition is held London. (Please--I am NOT slighting Scotland!)A hotel with a ballroom floor that has a stage could be a possibility. Gaurantee a certain number of attendees, and the hotel could sponsor a discount.

Sponsorship could be some Liquor company, maybe a lingerie company, a stocking distributor.

If you strictly keep it for Can-Can, you may attract a majot sponsor. Here in America, Budweiser Beer sponsors major sporting events, Coca-Cola, McDonalds...something like that.

Since Ministry of Burlesque does offer can-can instruction, some fun things you can do...
    * Have a seminar of the can-can moves.
    * Can-Can Classes for guys.
    * High Kicking Competitions.
    * Games of Chance--Cancan garters tossed in a tube for a prize, for example.
    * Kids' Can-Can. They have them here in the USA.
    * Make your own can-can outfit.

I have a friend named Claire Duport of Paris who was a former can-can dancer for the Follies Bergere. She has her own troupe in Paris: "Le Clairette Cancan."

Invite some celebrities to be judges. Sian Lloyd comes into mind. This television weather girl has performed the can-can on her part, or have some other celebrity come be part of the festivities.

The media I think would eat this up. With enough publicity, you could possibly have this angle:

    "Who has the better Can-Can?
United Kingdom or Paris? Or somewhere around the world?
Which world province will claim the Can-Can prize?"

With the Internet, you can get the word out VERY quickly.

    Thoughts?

I don't think it's ever going to be as big as you'd like.

Coca cola sponsorship, celebrity judges, the media going crazy?

Also, it may just be me, but I think the idea of can-can for children a bit weird.
