    Default Burlesque in strip club?

Haha... So I thought I'd just write my incident on here.

I work at a strip club in Tucson, Arizona, USA. It's a total dive, and every girl that goes on stage does the same butt shaking routine. So I decided to bring something new, put together my own CD, and ended up making fair money, which is cool, and all. Well I started receiving complaints from other dancers that my music sucks and what I do on stage is not sexy because they can't sell lap dances to my music, which definitely isn't the MTV top 10 rap/hip hip/whatever. I don't do the whole "Look at my crotch and my crotch only" thing, my theme would be considered cute and sassy rather than low class and trashy. I don't know what my point is, just thought I'd vent here. Since then I've changed my music a little, and started dancing to more mainstream music, kinda. But it still makes me sad when strippers can't take my striptease.

yeah it just sounds like they probably feel threatened by you because, you have the balls to do something different. ignore them! if you are making money from it i would say that the customers are liking what you are doing so don't worry about it!

I always wondered how well burlesque would go down in a modern strip club. My OH keeps trying to find ways I can pay the bills with burly (he's very cold and calculating when it comes to paying the bills!) and suggested I approach the lap dancing club in my home town. It's not going to happen though, I can't see there being much of an audience for it in my little city - or in many others, to tell the truth, it appeals to a completely idfferent audience. But if you're getting an audience and earning then go for it, it's obviously working for you! Who cares what the other girls say? It's not as if you're making them dance in your style, is it? When the management say no, that's when you have to listen - not to cliquey co-workers

Seriously I can't see burlesque going down well in a strip joint. You go to a strip joint / lap dancing club to be aroused and titilated (or because your obliged to as part of a stag night!) you go to a burlesque club for the full entertainment experience and while there is stripping I can't say I've ever got aroused at a burlesque club.

Yep, that was my point ...

Although Cherie seems to be doing alright, so hey, must be working where she is!

Sounds like these women do not have alot of creativity. Dita von Teese started her career at strip joints.

I talk to some American girls occasionally online who do burlesque in strip bars and I don't think they have much trouble... I think the punters like to see something different every now and again.

Why is it any of the girls' business what you do? They're clearly idiots, just do your thing xx

Agreed - since from the sounds of things Cherie's workmates seem to have quite a one note repertoire for their routines, the punters probably quite enjoy the change her acts provide! :twothumbs:

Which, I suspect, might well be the problem from the other girl's perspective - iit certainly sounds like they have a bad case of sour grapes to me! :yuk:

Yeah to me, it also sounds more that they can't handle the attention you get, because they all do the same thing.

I hope you don't get dishearted by them.
