HELP - Paris experience?
Hope everyone on the forum is getting ready for seasoned festivities?
I'm going on a city break to Paris early next year - really want to do the tourist thing this time round...
Any good tourist things to do? like - flea markets etc to check out.
And if any of you have checked out any of the following shows - Lido / Moulin Rouge / Crazy Horses - please give advice and share your experiences as i can't make up my mind which one - argh!

Well, I walked past the Moulin Rouge.....I don't quite know what I was expecting but it definitely wasn't the extremely tacky and plastic-looking thing that I saw! A couple of friends went there a while ago too, wandered in, and were apparently accosted by some dancers before they could refuse. They were then marched down to the nearest cash machine at knife point by the bouncers when they realised they didn't have enough money to pay for the dance the didn't want in the first place....
That's what they said anyway
Edit: Oh! If you like cemetaries (I do) then Montmartre is good to visit, as is the obvious Pere Lachaise.
I didn't do many touristy things while I was there, except for the galleries. If you're going to any of those then I'd recommend the Pompidou, definitely.

Some one told me this of Paris, France. "John, there is a song that goes, I love Paris in the Spring Time, I love Paris in the Fall, the reason being is that, in the Winter the city is dead and in the summer it stinks!" That was from someone who had worked there for a couple of years. Makes yer fink dunit?
Then again, you MIGHT be talking about Paris, Texas.............It has an Eiffel Tower with a bloody great red cowboy hat on the top! It also has an aweful lot of parks in it, it very rarely rains, is full of cowboys and wannabies.

I went to a gorgeous cabaret show called La Nouvelle Eve - much more affordable than the Moulin Rouge and just around the corner. they do some shows in English too, which is nice if you don't speak French as they have some great comedy acts. and an AMAZING women on silks who must be at least well into her 60s... highly recommended.
something that i really loved was Montemartre at night-time - i had my portrait drawn in charcoal and it's lovely, loads of fun to watch all the artists and the city lights.
and if you feel like a day trip, Versaille is pretty incredible.
mostly though, i enjoyed the food... ask the locals where they eat and indulge in some minor (or major) gluttony! so worth it.

La Nouvelle Eve is still there?! My mother worked there briefly in the 60s... Maybe the lady on silks was there then too!

Hiya,
Ive been visiting Paris since i was 14, so know lots of really cool little restaurants, I especially love the monmartre area, it can be a bit of a tourist trap, but I can tell you some really cool places if you like!
Yes Ive been to the Moulin Rouge, Id defo recommend it 100%, we had the meal and show, but the meal was ok, not worth what we paid for it, better to go to a local restaurant and then walk to the venue and have the champagne and show package!
We were lucky to be just near the stage and hubbie kept a feather from one of the girls costumes!!
You must walk upto the sacre coeur at night time, gives you the most amazing view of paris and the place du tetre is really alive on the evening :-)
pm me if youd like info on rests x
