    Default Our stage names ....

I had a recent situtation where a lady added me on my face book, who had a very simillar name to myself,i added her and was ok with it but then my fella spoke up and said " you dont want someone with a name so close to yours being on your friends list",and I had to agree with him after thinking about it.I also had this conversation with two close friends of mine!! When you work so hard to put an act together,a name together and then it seems like somebody with less imagination has decided to just take and slightly change, how does that make you feel? Of course you will find that sometimes someone will jut have come up with the same idea as yourself, but if that happens do you step down and pick something else,or has anyone thought " no,i thought of it to,im sticking with it" ??

Just something I wondered really , If I for example was to see a Masuimi Marx ,Sabina Jellies or a Dita Von Teatime , I would instantally feel rather upset that someone didnt use their imagination and would feel like in a word, they had stolen ???

    xoxo

I think that it would be really embarassing if I had a name that's already been used! Me and my friends are currently thinking about our stage names, and one of them is so close to already existing name so I think it has to be changed.

Btw, Masuimi Marx makes me think miss Max in a huge fake moustache!

Oh good gods - someone please convince her to do a Groucho tribute as an act! That's an act I would pay to see!

I think it all depends on a) how similiar it is and b) how unusual the name was to start with! For example with me Dolly is a pretty common name, and I certainly was no way near the first to have it, but if someone tried to call themselves something literally almost the same eg 'miss dolly roses' I think it would be understandable to see it as a bit unreasonable! xxx

I think it would depend on the act - for example if Dita Von Teatime stripped to jammy dodger pasties then took the plunge in a giant tea-cup it would be amusing parody (though Al Murray has already done something similar) however if they were simply using the name as a draw and copying Ms Tease's act then I would be a bit annoyed.

I definitely read too much Pratchett :worried: - the first image into my head when I read this was of Dita von Tease in an Assasin's Cloak drawling "it's pronounced te-ah-tim-eah"!

    Pratchett - themed burlesque anyone?

I've been trying for the longest time! I have an awsome Susan Sto Helit wig that needs to be worn more often - but she's not the easiest character to work with in burlesque themes. I have one rather interesting idea involving her, but it would only work with an audience of dedicated Pratchett fans. I may break it out at the next convention and see what happens ...

Yeah! :twothumbs: Definitely worth a go, please let us see the results if you decide to go ahead! :excited:

When it comes to Burlesque Cheery Longbottom pops into my head as a wonderful character for a burlesque act (although a possible problem for me as I'm 5'8") - although I'd have to work on the situation!

. . . . and then of course if completely stuck, there's always the Seamstresses to fall back on!

Saw a good few Cheri's done as CSI: Ankh-Morpork style skits at this year's con. As far as characters go Adora Belle would be my favourite (good for some dry, biting satire, methinks), but Susan is the one whose look I can pull off best - I look pretty good with a white afro, I have to say ...

Oh, the Seamstresses ... and the Pink Pussycat Club, as well ...

    I'm an Assassin myself though!
