    Default My own routine

    Hello gorgeous Burlesquers!

Well, I have decided that I would like to attempt to design and choreograph my very own routine - just something short, very simple, and for "private" rather than performance purposes. I just think that it would build my confidence to do something myself, even if its rubbish, it will be mine!

I have found a couple of pieces of music that I like but i'm at a dead loss, i've never done anything like this before and I have no idea where to start.

I am finding myself just standing there wiggling or using moves from other peoples routines, mixed up a bit

If any of you kind and wise folks have some tips as to how to build a little "story" and put some moves to the music, I would be most grateful

ps I am new to all this and if this should be in learning burlesque i apologise, but I cant seem to post over there, for some reason

    Thanks x

    hi honey,

I find it best to try and think of using the space you have. Once you think about making your act move around a bit its easier to think of moves and then things to link them so your not just in one spot. You could also focus on a main item you want to take off...for example gloves or stockings, as these things could actually take up an entire routine if you wanted them to Is there a theme or story to your music? Sometimes thats good for inspiration or think how the music makes you feel, if it makes you feel happy do something a bit cheeky, if it makes you feel a little bit saucy then get a bit sexier! Let those emotions show in your face. Also, there are only so many ways to take your clothes off so try not to worry about copying things you have seen other dancers do, unless its a signature move theyre well known for there a probably a hundred other girls doing the same kind moves in one act or another (for example..i was at a photoshoot earlier this week and the photographer said to blow a kiss, 6 burlesque girls all instantly bobbed down a bit and blew a marilyn monroe style kiss....we cant help ourselves!) just try and let your own style shine through, and if your still finding out what your style is, just experiment with what feels comfortable for you.

I hope this helps you a bit, im still pretty new at this myself and so im still trying to work these things out myself!!

    Good luck xx
