Lost my Mojo
Hi everyone,
just lately I feel like I have a lost my burlesque mojo. I have been having a few problems in my personal life over the last couple of weeks and have been working two jobs since november and I feel like it has really taken its toll on how I feel about performing.
Normally when I feel down in the dumps I find the prospect of a show cheers me right up but at the moment I feel tired and lethargic and although I love the performing part and the creating acts and characters; the travelling, trains, buses, heavy suitcases and nights spent away from home (which can be an inconvenience at the best of times) are making me feel blue. I feel like I am being really rubbish getting back to people who email me, not chasing any new bookings and just not on top of my game at all.
Also, I feel so keen to start costuming my new act (sewing always cheers me up!) but I can't get on with that as I need to save all my money to buy a car (assuming i pass my test). So at the moment I feel a bit like I'm in burlesque limbo.
Just wondered, does anyone else get times when they feel like this, and when you do how do you tend to snap youself out of it?
Hugs

All the time!
I take some time off, forget that I'm Fleur for a bit, and get back to doing something I enjoy that's not burlesque orientated. There is no point at all in doing this if you're thinking of it as a chore, and if it's dominating your free time then that's what it will feel like. So concentrate on some other interests for a while and see if that perks you back up

Hiya
Obviously I dont perform but can relate to you in other areas of life in general. Its hard to snap out of feeling down...sometimes things seem like an circle, going round and round.
I usually find a few days away from it all helps or if money is tight a day away where you can let your hair down.
How about going to a show as a spectator rather than performer? A few drinks with the girls?
If you enjoy making costumes why not tailor some of your existing ones for routines that you want to change?
Failing that, go and put your favorite music on really loud, dance around whilst eating a big slice of choc cake.Deb

I know exactly how you feel Emerald... i'm going through something similiar myself.
Life has just been too hectic to be performing aswell as i'm travelling with my day job so much.... however i do know that I do miss performing... but then have thought about giving up altogether!!!
It's a confusing one!!!
Sorry that's no use at all... but just to say you're not the only one!!!

Yep, and it's amost always in Feb to early Mar, until the cold and crappy weather improves. Some people have suggested to me it's SAD, but it always happens at the tail-end of winter, and doesn't come on at the beginning of it when the daylight goes. I think I'm just generally run-down by Feb/Mar, and it affects my sleep, which then affects mood. Anyway...
It sounds like the stress of performing is not being outweighed by the good times. If you've not got any bookings, howabout 'resting' for a while until it 'blows your hair back' again?
Sorry to hear about that though, chuck. x

oh honey! I love you!
I take time off completely from all things burly every now and then. Sometimes its just a couple of days and sometimes its a couple of weeks. You will know when its time to get back to burlesque. I suggest having a chill out period regularly as it helps to re-evaluate your position. x

Definitely- I felt like this last year when everything was going a bit pear shaped with me, and even though Im back performing, Im finding it hard to get my mojo/confidence back! That said, things are hardly going smoothly with life stuff, I reckon it must be normal to have others things leak over into how you feel about performing. Im sure things will change back again soon, you are fab hun, you should have mojo!

How giving yourself permission to have a sabbatical (not necessarily a year, perhaps a couple of months)?
Don't feel down about losing your mojo.....see it as an opportunity. Have a break. Do some research, watch burlesque vids on youtube etc and see what inspires you. Go to some shows as a member of the audience and watch routines from a different perspective. Perhaps listen to a self-improvement audio book or do something totally different.
I suppose the important thing is not to beat yourself up or worry about losing your mojo, because that will just make you feel more down......give yourself permission to have a break and do something different. Persuade yourself that this a good thing (because it is) and that you will be a better, happier person afterwards. And make the most of all the hugs, virtual and real you can get from us lot

Hi honey
sending you a big hug.
I could not agree more with what everyone has said. We all get it at some point in the year, everyone has troubles of some point in there lives. I think the best advice is to take a break for a couple of days hang out with friends that make you laugh. Go to the pictures or treat your self to a day of pampering and chill.
If you ever need to chat you are always welcome honey
Hugs
