Thread: Introducing The Ministry Of Burlesque Directory!

People who visit MoB fall into two distinct categories - community members and information finders, however as the number of services grows on the site, it's getting harder for people to navigate and easily find the information that they need.

It was clear that our existing forum structure would not cut the mustard for services such as event listings, job castings and performer information, so we've taken the bold decision to strip these from the MoB Community site and launch a whole new site with them!

The new site can be found at www.burlesque.me.uk and it's the definitive directory of all things burlesque. Everything is geographically sorted by country, city and town and there's even a special clickable UK Burlesque Map which will show all the upcoming events in your area. The features on the new site are as follows:

Event Listing
Our new event listings section gives you the information you need and fast! Full venue addresses and contact numbers and there's even the option to upload your event flyer! It's totally free to list any event or promoters can showcase their events with a dedicated page, detailed description and a Google Map to their venue.

Performer Listings
A growing directory of UK burlesque performers complete with links to their website. Potential bookers can email performers directly (performer email addresses are not displayed) without having to worry about agencies slapping on a fee on top. A basic listing - which should be fine for most people - is totally free Alternatively, people can pay a monthly fee for a showcase listing which includes a dedicated search engine optimised profile page complete with a detailed description, photo and video. The showcase listings appear above the regular free listings.

Workshop Listings
If you're looking for a fun-filled burlesque workshop, it's now possible to find one in your area by using our Burlesque Workshop search. If nothing is found in your area, we give you instructions on how you can arrange your own workshop using experienced and qualified teachers.

Burlesque Business Listings
If you're stuck for where to buy a corset or if you need a photographer for a burlesque event, then our directory of burlesque related businesses gives you the contact details you need. Businesses can choose between free and showcase listings.

Castings
It's now possible to search for castings in your area and now it's not just performers who can find work as we've split this section into 'Burlesque Performance Work' and 'Other Burlesque Work' such as photographers and DJs.

Favourites
The new favourites page lets you easily bookmark any performers, events or castings that you are interested in and view them all on a dedicated page.

It's also now much easier to advertise on MoB because we've even integrated our banner advertising system into the site. People can now purchase banner advertising and either pay in blocks of 1000 page impressions or at a highly discounted monthly rate.

We've integrated both sites into each other with the same look and feel, so in many cases you won't even realise that you're flitting between the two, however - if you wish to place a listing then you will need to re-register for the new site.

We've already added over 150 performers and businesses into the directory, so it will be a good idea to search to see if you have been included before registering an account. If you are already in the directory, you can take control of your listing by clicking the 'is this your listing?' link next to your name. Please note that name claims will only be accepted from the addresses which match the ones we have on file.

So far, just had a cursory glance. The events pages are just brilliant.
One small correction, sorry to be a pain, The Soho Revue Bar, has been in receivership for a good number of weeks now. Polly & The Girlies have a new venue, (and I'm going to see them, she says, delightedly,} you can see the Hurly Burly Girlies every Friday at ten pm, they are appearing at The Leicester Square Theatre.

Thanks for that - all under control however as I am currently preparing to mail the owners of each of the listings so that they can edit them as they wish. In most cases the details should be fine, but there are a few which are bound to slip through the net.

Hmmm.......I still think that 'castings' should appear on the regular MoB site as well. It's certainly something I look at regularly as do many, many others. Also it's a BIG part of our on-line community.

I'm on the new site now but not sure how to sign up to it as a regular person (well.....pixie parasol!!!). I'm really, really confused!!!!! I don't perform much and don't want to pay to see what castings are available but still want to perform when possible. Therefore I don't have a rinky-dink performers profile to add!!!!

well I'm totally confoosed!! I cant do my performer listing, am I just being blonde?

Nope - I'm super-confused too!!!!! There is just toooooooo much stuff on the home page now, and so soon after the other changes (which were very good!!!). All on the day after facebook decided to change it's pages too....grrrrr!!!!!!!

I just want to be able to see more than 1 comment in the live-chat box AND easily check the available castings in case there is anything I would like to go for. I don't think promoters are going to come looking for me so I would like to easily see what's out there.

My head hurts now - it's all just tooooooooo much!!!!!!

All you need to do is fill out the boxes and then I will authorise it. Which part are you stuck on?

I tried registering on the other site but it wouldn't let me as "special characters are not allowed in the user name". My user name was exactly the same as this one though.

The castings can be easily accessed by clicking the 'Castings' link at the top of the page. Everything can be done with one click.

You don't have to pay anything to view the castings or submit a listing, you simply click the 'Get Listed' link (again in the top menu) and choose from the create Listing, Event or Casting tab. Each is free unless you choose to showcase your listing.

I'm a bit confused here, the homepage at http://www.ministryofburlesque.com is the same except for the colour - it's even got one less tab, so things should actually be LESS cluttered.

Chat-box thing is now sorted and as I mentioned, simply click the 'Castings' link in the top menu - from any page and it will take you directly to the castings you desire. You don't need to register to view them either.

Try calling yourself 'december-charm' instead of 'December Charm' - I need to put a notice that you can't use spaces for your account name. Things will work then.
