Celebrity burlesque
Has anyone seen either of these recent celebrity burlesque inspired performances? What did you think?
Girls Aloud at The Brits YouTube - Girls Aloud - The Promise (BRIT Awards Performance - 2009)
And Paris Hilton at her birthday party YouTube - Paris Hilton acting like a pussycat doll on her B-day
Girls Aloud can do no wrong in my eyes, I quite liked their little foray into fan dancing, although I think some of the male dancers who were actually controlling the fans could've been a little better rehearsed.
Paris' performance for me is just an unrehearsed shambles.
Anyone know where Girl's Aloud might've got their fans? I thought Ostriches Online at first but in some of the shots it looks like the staves might be covered in diamantes.....XWARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

I swear my ex was in that Paris Hilton video! Haha!!
As for the fans, they could have been from anywhere. It wouldn't have been too difficult to glue the rhinestones on the staves.Snowflakes and Sparkles

It is tricky, yes. Feathers are not the best surface to stick rhinestones onto as the spines are not porous, and rhinestones stick best if you use a porous surface. Also, the curved surface of the spine means that the stones can only stick to a very small section. If you want to stick rhinestones to the spines, I've found that the best way is not to use the usual hotfix application, but to actually use superglue, or a thicker glue like all-purpse glue, that will create a bed of gloop (great technical term, eh?) and stick the entire surface of the rhinestone down. This creates a much stronger bond between the stone and the spine. If you want to stick the stones to the fronds of the feathers, it's much easier to use the hotix method and they stick quite securely - but you have to be careful not to burn them with your applicator!
Staves are another matter. Acrylic staves will be incredibly difficult to stick anything to, because of the sheer shinyness of their surface. Any glue used will just not stick and the stones will come off at the first knock. Wooden or bamboo staves will probably be a better bet. I can't say I've tried rhinestoning wooden or bamboo staves, so I can't speak from experience, but I should imagine that as porous surfaces the stones should stick nicely. But holding the staves, as well as opening and closing the fans, will probably knock off a great many stones, causing them to shed very quickly and easily. But as I say, I can't speak from experience here.
Either way, rhinestoning fans is tricky, and takes a lot of upkeep as they can shed easily. But they do look showstopping, so it's all about finding the best method you can

Yeah I can imagine they would get knocked off the staves very easily.
Perhaps I will just stick with gluing them to the feathers and maybe just give the staves the glitter treatment....this is all of course when I've got the money to buy the fans!
It'd be great if someone manufactured acrylic staves with rhinestones set into them during the moulding process. Maybe I should take that one to Dragons Den
