I wouldn't beat yourself up about this. It looks like a simple misunderstanding which has been made more frustrating with hindsight
I don't think we can get annoyed by this really. At the end of the day, most burly performers do strip, and that's going to make some people uncomfortable however tastefully it's done. But if you're clever with your wording and maybe take in some examples in picture (or video if there's a computer) form, you can probably limit that. Pictures will show people with reservations that what you're planning is probablyy not as risque as they might initially think. But you two are pretty switched on, so you're probably already planning that ^_^

Help!
Have been informed by the arts council they do not give funding for charity events so not to bother applying. So we now require sponsors if this night to go ahead. Any offers gratefully received all advice welcomed.

Hi there
I am new to the site and was really happy to see someone use their talent to give to others. You'll get your reward in heaven....if you dont get there...well ill see you at the burny fire..ill be the one toasting marshmallows with my fork!
When (notice i didnt say IF) it gets off the ground id be happy to do some fund raising here in glasgow and send you a donation to help with costs and stuff. Im sure you will need all the help that can physically be thrown at you. Some people arent so forthcoming when you dont have Dita or Immodesty on the bill..but hey...youll show em kid!
Im hoping to start a new business but am worried some people might think im tarnishing the image of burlesque...and believe me its the last thing i want to do. Noone is doing it in my area and i had to scramble for info on burlesque(huray for the web) so i want to just get people interested enough and open the gate to them if they want to get serious about it.
But as usual low self asteem sets in and that wicked voice tells you that it could fail and i fall spectacularly on my toushe but by god Im going to give it a go. Life is short and we are here for a good time..not a long time so...watch this space.
Does anyone think it would be sacrelage to run burlesque parties for hen night and parties at peoples homes?
Love and angel dust

That is such a shame. But I'm sure you could drum up sponsorship from lots of places... Burly photographers, corsetiers, vintage-style clothing companies etc. I am sure they would be pleased to lend their name to a charity event.

Angel and I have debaited what to do next. In a moment of truly latteral thinking we have started contacting Funeral Directors and organisations to try and raise funding. At the moment we are setting a fairly low target of £282 to raise in sponsorship, the cost of the venue. We are, at the moment, tryig to get offers in principal only as we have to wait for Cruse Birmingham to have their meeting and give us the go ahead.

Maybe if you had a fashion show and charge the designers for the honor.
Sounds a lil odd I know but I saw it done on some TV show but they did it on a boat.
Anyway you could charge them for showing at your event AND say 10% of what they made there.
If you decided to do this and needed models I'd be more then happy to help and Im sure plenty of other guys n gals would also.
Hope this helps huns!
Best of luck!-
Sinthia Darling
Ps: If you need help with anything lemme know but pref like 1 month in advance so I can get time off and get to England.

Oh if you have trouble finding designers hand out some flyers at unis and colleges. Its also sorta free publicity.

Thanks for the offer Sinthia, unfortunately we don't have the time for a Fashion Show, as we are looking at a 2 hour show with a 30 minute break, taking us to 10:30pm approximately based on a basic time line for the event. We wish to keep the event within the boundaries of a Burlesque and Cabaret Show, a fashion show doesn't really fit our aims. To be honest we would be more interested in designers donating Burlesque themed clothes or items for the charity raffle.
Angel and I think your idea could work as a fundraiser for a charity, but our networking and strengths are with Burlesque and Cabaret, not a fashion show. Perhaps one day you could put your skills and networking to good use and run your own charity fundraiser.

You could, however, ask some Burlesque-associated designers (corsets, lingerie, etc etc...) to bring some of their wares down to sell at the interval, and after the show, in exchange for a modest amount of sponsorship money from them and/or raffle/ auction prizes. They could also sponsor a performer, in terms of something in the program saying "so-and-so's outfit by such-and-such...". Just a thought...
