Default Music editing for debut performance

How does one go about editing and cutting up music tracks? I have absolutely no tech-savvy when it comes to things like this. I live in a gentler age and still carry round a rusting Sony Discman from 1998 despite having bought one of those ipod things... ops:

My first ever act is on the 15th May, and I want to use two very different pieces of music. I would like only about a minute of the (slower) first track for an intro sequence and for the music to then change to the second track and play that one in its entirety, if that makes sense.

The music would have to be burned onto CD for the performance.

I've never done anything like this before but I would like to get the CD made up really soon because then I can practise with the actual recording and get the timing right.

Is there software I should download that could do this quite quickly? I have Windows Vista and it comes with the usual Media Player and a CD burner. What methods do all you other performers use to mix your music? Thanks in advance!

    Good post!

I too would also benefit from knowing more on this. I usually just use one track for each of my routines because I'm not familiar with how to mix/edit etc music together or know anyone with such talents.

There's also audacity and I've heard that there is a tutorial on how to use it on youtube too! I'm just getting to grips with a bit of splicing and usually use one track too.

That was easy to find. I had googled but wasn't sure what was the best software to choose and a lot of them seemed to be more complex, for DJs making dance remixes etc. Thanks!

I've never had that May and I've been using Audacity for some time. What were you trying to do?

Oh Honey, I hadn't even realised you posted a reply to this!!! :disbelief:
Darn it and I only saw you today too. Ok, well, I'm going to definitely have a chin wag with you soon on this subject. In the meantime I'm going to download Audacity and have a play around.

Fantastic to see you today too BTW
