Advice needed on new act - will "sad" work??
Hello all!
Im working on a new act - its a complete departure from my other acts, in that it is meant to be very sad ( wife finds out hubby is having affair but decides to stay...it works in my head anyway!)
but what im thinking is -
will it go down ok? i suppose in my mind i have it that acts need to be funny, upbeat and/or sexy
what do you all think?????

Hey honey,
Sad acts can definitely work - and I think what makes a performer great is when they have a wide range of acts covering different spectrums, themes and emotions etc. My only worry with this idea would be how people might feel about a woman who discovers her husband is having an affair but then decides to stay - in terms of female empowerment, independence and stuff. If it's done well it coujld be amazing though - and I know you're capable of that!

Aww.

If it's done from the angle of 'look how amazing and strong this woman is' then I'm sure it could work. I ended up scrapping a Valentine's routine about a girl who tries to kill herself after her date doesn't call because I felt like burlesque should embody 'Girl Power' and all that jazz... and because it cut a bit too close to the bone hehe.
Good luck with it chick!!

As long as you make sure it's entertaining (as in, people will want to watch it to the end) then use any emotion you think you can act, if you think it'll make a good routine

Well I know it's not exactly the same thing but I watch sad films, lots of people do, as well as comedies. If it's kept interesting I think a sad routine could have the same pull that a sad film does. Good luck with it
