Default Misunderstanding burly and the role of terminology

Just a thought I have been having- is terminology to blame? I hope that clear and accurate definitions will be demanded when they are applying their restrictions.

"Cabaret" can describe a performance in a strip show, but also song and dance and theatrical performance involving no strip.

Burlesque in other countries ie the USA can involve nudity, but does it ever in the UK? Do local councils know that burlesque has a history and is hugely varied performance art and is not simply what Dita says and does or what happens in strip clubs, even if the words are the same?

"Striptease" is used as a term to describe what happens in a stipclub, and also in burlesque, the same term used to describe two very different activities and intentions.

There is great confusion over what even a lapdance involves, published definitions range from "grinding against a mans groin unitl he ejaculates (????!!!!) and performing a dance where the only touching allowed is when the dancer leads the patron by the hand to the dance area. Very different.

So, are we all getting accidently coloured by the same paint? Are these terms defined and researched fully and accurately in official documents, and if not, how can we make sure that they do? Do councils even understand what they are restricting?

And, if we took the word "striptease" out of our definition of what we do, would the problems remain the same? Interestign stuff, the power of language.

I had the same conversation with a friend of mine. He said essentially striptease is strip tease no mater what context.

I see it as the same word but many different forms and it is this i think people dont understand.

You can have strip tease which is very theatrical, stylised, parodic or comedic and then you have the kind which will titilate/arouse.....

its a very murky grey area and i often wonder whether even defining to the furthest extent would even do the different styles justice....(by that i mean can the different styles be so narrowly defined so as to be classified for paperworks sake!)

arghhhh i hate this kind of thing!!! lol
