Burlesque singer in the making
My name is Laura. I have been a professional jazz singer in the West End for several years.. I now have a growing interest for corsets, feathers and crystals! I wish to develop a Burlesque act combining my sultry jazz vocals with chair/ fan dance . I am based in Brighton. I have the musicians, the agents, the contacts for a normal cabaret entertainer but the Burlesque world is a stranger to me now. I know I can do it. I am attractive , slim, dance well and I am certainly not shy! Can anyone help? Agents? Managers? Costume designers? choreographers? or just a friendly face for advice , chat etc. Please help. I dont even have a name yet! x

If you're looking for venues, there's lots of places you could start out. Kemp Town has got some nice small venues dotted arond the place or there's the bigger clubs like Komedia if you're already established. Ghetto hosts the odd open to all performance night, but it tends to be a bit sleazy sometimes :-/ I'm not a performer myself so I'm not too sure on contacts etc, but in terms of costumes, I can recommend a couple of places. She Said is my absolute favourite shop in Brighton, it's in the Lanes down Ship Street Gardens and they offer lots of bespoke outfits. They have a large range of corsets as well as their recommended designer Chrissie at Curve Couture who can make something for you if you want something special. They've also started getting some really fabulous hair pieces in, made by a local designer. Aside from She Said, I'd recommend ReVamp and the costume shop at the bottom of London Road (the name escapes me), that last one has a lovely range of antique brooches by the way. There's also some nice vintage shops in the North Laine, but I can't think of any that spring to mind right now (I'm hopeless with names).
Like I said, I'm not in the industry so I'm not great with that side of things, but if you need some promo shots done, i'd recommend Studio 27 on Queen's Road. They specialise in burlesque photography, you can either bring your own stuff or use theirs. They did the photos in my album if you want an example of their stuff.
Wish you best of luck x

Hi, I live just outside Brighton.
I'm pretty new to the scene so I can't give you huge amounts of advice but if you have any questions or just want to say hello feel free to PM me!
Good luck with everything!

Hi there Laura,
If your looking to get gigs at burlesque evets/develop a burlesque routine or persona then you might want to head along to a few shows as a spectator. It'll give you an idea of whats going on and who local is involved. Club Smootch comes to mind in the Brighton area, but I'm sure there are loads.

Hi Laura,
I'm not performing at the moment. Taking a break, and haven't been around here much for ages either. But I'm happy to be a friendly singing face :-)

Hi Laura, look up Holly Penfield, Ivy Paige, Dolores Delight, they will point you in the right direction, just google their names. There are always plenty of venues in London looking for new talent, try any of these in the google box.
Volupte-lounge, CellarDoor, Bourne & Hollingsworth, Last Days of Decadence, The Jazz Club, Virginia Creeper, once you get established, you will get plenty of oppurtunities through networking, hope that helps.
