Job, travelling, Burlesque
Hi ladies and gents,
I wanted to start this thread to get advice on how those of you with monday to friday 9 to 5 type jobs manage with regards to travelling to see/perform at shows.
I am particularly stumped as there isn't a huge scene this far South. I'd like to get to see more shows and would love to travel more but I'm just trying to work out how this is achievable.
Equally, I would love to know if any of you from down my way (Dorset) would be up for travelling up country to see some shows. I'd love a travelling buddy!
Any advice that any of you can give would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi, i'm Portsmouth way and found the same thing. When i discussed this recently with friends the general response was travel to London as it's only two hours away and has some of the best shows. The only downside to this for me is either having to drive (and park/get very lost), or come back early because the last train leaves London at 11pm.
I'm trying to persuade my O/H to take me to Paris, if it should coinside with Carmen at Crazy Horse so much the better. I know he reads my posts so hopefully this should be a subtle enough hint!

I'm about a mile over the Dorset border in Hampshire but would quite like to go and see a good show or two, unfortunately almost all of my boring friends aren't interested in going to burlesque shows :-(
Anyway I have vehicle and can drive so would be happy to offer anyone a lift provided we split the costs, oh and I'm self employed so don't need to worry about times etc.

Hello!
I'm happy to travel anywhere but, being on a very (very!!) limited budget, I can't afford train/coach fares to get anywhere and I can't afford hotel costs, so I don't have to think about last train home.
If anyone wants a navigator I am very happy to oblige! I live in Southampton.

Ooh yay, I'm really pleased with these responses!
well, thankfully we now have the Kitty Kat Cabaret in Bournemouth which is the nearest event to me which is held on the last Sunday of the month.
I know there are some events in Southampton like the Heart of Burlesque which is at the Soul Cellar in Southampton and there's HMS Pin Up in Portsmouth. I'd like to go to both of those shows if anyone is up for it?
White Knight, I drive too and would gladly share the costs of fuel.
Vie, I was bearing you in mind anyway my dear!
Do you know of any more shows in Southampton?
I would love to bring burlesque to my home town. It's quite a rural area - I'd love to see the reaction!

I will be at HMS Pin up on the 14th, i believe it will be a Rocky Horror theme. I'm coming from the other direction but if you go and would like a watch buddy let me know.
(P.S. parking in Southsea is a nightmare, so get there early and bring your hiking boots)

Oh I'm glad you said that, I had a look on their myspace page and it doesn't say anything about it as far as I can see!
I will see if I can go and let you know. It would be lovely to have a watch buddy! Hmmm, I don't suit boots, how about hiking stilettos? ha ha

There is a facebook group as well. I spoke to the RMA yesterday and as far as he knows it's still going ahead the sites just haven't been updated yet.
Last time i went i got there at 20.03 and it took over 45 minutes to find a parking space, in the end i parked by the beach and walked in. Bless my O/H he offered me a piggyback, but i chinnied up and ran in heels.

I'd happily go to any of the shows mentioned above, anythigs better than continually gazing at computer screens which is all I seem to be doing at the moment
