Default Burlesque Aerobics - Yay or Nay?

    Hey guys,

I've noticed a trend in some gyms in Australia with courses known as 'Burlesque Aerobics' and 'Burlesque Beat'

I just don't feel burlesque can be taught in an aerobics style class.

Are there similar classes in your part of the world? Thoughts and opinions welcome!

    Hmmmmmmm....

I've not seen one before, although Carmen Electra made 7 dvds based on areobic striptease. I think she uses the movements and a couple build up into a routine. If there were classes i would give it a go, maybe they are based on tightening the muscles most used for dancing?
I did see a couple of pole danc-ercise classes when pole dancing was really popular last year.

Hm it's definitely food for thought. I just picture someone in an Adidas corset?! It's not really that kind of styling. Perhaps a new market for sportswear?

I find burlesque so sensual, it doesn't really work with the idea of sweaty gym classes.

As long as they weren't trying to pretend to be teaching burlesque, but just using some of the moves for fitness, then it could be fun. I would give it a go.

Queen Bea, it could be a good place to sell some accessories! If I was doing burlesque aerobics a little fascinator would help my workout - methinks!

I quite agree - one of the things I loved about burlesque classes was being able to get some exercise in heels, and when I first got into bellydancing it was all down to the gear!!! SO much more motivating to work out in something other than trackies...

I think it's a great idea - provided it's very clear that it's for fun and fitness rather than preparing you for a stage. As long as they don't re-name it Burlesquercise I think there's a place for some sort of fun classes for people who don't want to do street dance, salsa etc

I've got 3 of the Carmen Electra aerobic striptease dvds and they're good wholesome fun

Sorry Tempest but there already is a Burlesquercise! It's a DVD made by Bombshell Betty from San Fransisco! I got a copy a while back and it is a ton of fun - much more about having a laugh and using some of the moves for a light workout.

The main reason I started this topic is that I'm about to start teaching a burlesque class. A gym asked me and then sent me the poster they had printed without checking with me. Look at the attached! Can you imagine my horror - burlesque aerobics. I don't know what I'm going to teach. Maybe I can get that Burlesquercise vid for some tips. Can you see the pic?

    Help!
