My wonderful suprise...(long lol)
Followers on Twitter may have seen this yesterday so I do apologise for the double post

My family and I are incredibly close but in all honesty, it's taken some time for them to accept my career choice and I'm affectionately known as the family 'Pikey' so it's been a long standing battle to involve them in any way.
Last year my brother came to see a performance and even though he was a little freaked by his little sister taking off her clothes; he sent me flowers the next day and has since been a huge support even advising me on contracts with his lawyer girlfriend drafting new legal documents for us!
Anyway, long story short my mom was taking the longest to come round. She's very much an academic and I was originally training to be a lawyer so I think she was the most upset when I decided to perform with the circus instead...
She's never watched me perform burlesque but noticed I was complaining about my costumes falling apart and my heinous sewing skills. In December when my luggage went missing, she bought a replacement pattern and helped me make two new costumes and since then she's been obsessive about finding patterns, designs and looking up historical music hall archives to copy.
She remade my postbox act dress which I know she hated doing as it was a boring pattern and was looking for something more challenging.
So little known to me, my mom set upon her own little project to suprise me with on Monday... knowing I had retired my Wizard of Oz act due to costume issues but also knowing how sad that had made me... she had hidden under a large yellow sheet A COMPLETE NEW DOROTHY COSTUME!
Using no pattern, mom had copied from my Oz special edition book the exact dress from the movie; adapting the blouse and apron so I could remove it from the front...
Obviously I burst into tears
But that wasn't all, mom said I should try it on so as I took the costume from the mannequin I realised it had a complete undergarment set too... not just knickerbockers but a steel boned corset that she had made in two days... her first one! All alongside working 60 hours per week as a head chef!!
I think she's an utter genius and I couldn't be prouder! I really feel I can share my career with my family and for them to be involved is a wonderful wonderful feeling!!!
Often, I read on the forums about issues with families and understanding the choice to do burlesque. Two years ago I would have felt exactly the same and would never dreamed my own mother would be my personal costume designer!!!
Look at the pictures and tell me what you think, the bra is going to be replaced or potentially sparkled into a rainbow lol
Also this means my Dorothy act is BACK for bookings so promoters get in touch...
Yellow brick road here I come...
