Burlesque and the Workplace - Dismissed!
Just thought I'd update everyone about the result of my disciplinary hearing on Friday 3 July 2009.
I was dismissed for Gross Misconduct in relation to my inappropriate 'Burlesque' activities and not showing any/enough remorse.
Shocked is not the word.
I am now preparing an Appeal against the decision.
Please please please, if you work for any Local Education Authority, with children or students - think carefully about the potential outcome of performing and having your photo posted on a social networking site (not necessarily by yourself), tagged or untagged, in your own name or your stage name, as you could lose your job if someone (in my case colleagues) can identify you and choose to tell your employer.
For those of you with supportive work places, think yourselves lucky.

Believe you and me I will try my hardest!
Apparently I have to appeal first.
I don't honestly think they'll change their mind.
But I am prepared to go all the way to Tribunal.
Thanks for your response, it is appreciated!

How ridiculous. Anyone would think we were still living in the 19th century! What you do in your own time should not be the business of your employer. Imagine all the things people get up to in their spare time, after all, all those fetishists who go to Torture Garden have jobs, for example!
Sounds like you have a case for discrimination to me.

Agreed with all the other posters - that is absolutely chuffing ridiculous. If you do appeal and you win though, what does that mean? Would they have to give you your job back? Would you even want it?

i cant believe this outcome! how appalling...two distinctly separate areas of your life neither of which encroach on the other...this is really so bad...i used to work for local council as a classroom assistant and was self-employed as a childminder so i can see it from several angles but i really do think you have been extremely harshly treated...i dont perform but would ultimately love to get to that stage and im glad now that im neither of my previous occupations!...your private life should be allowed to be separate from your working persona....i mean lets face it folks there are surely worse things done behind closed doors in private and/or public by those who are higher up the "social respectability" chain...judges...jps...men of the cloth etc...with what consequences...Pah! this society really is unjust at times! do keep us posted on how this ends up please...all the best and kind regards ann.

Words cannot describe how stupid I think that decision is, apart from anything else all you have to do is try and prove that there is nothing wrong with your Burlesque act, if you can do that then there is no reason for you to have shown no remorse.
Let me guess the person who "Shopped" you to the workplace is very "religious" Out of curiosity what was such a person doing browsing your website, double standards perhaps ?
On the bright side if your Professional identity is kept separate from your personal one and there is nothing on the site that links you with the education system then I'd guess you have a pretty good case for unfair dismissal. Good luck

With a good lawyer, hopefully she'll get a sufficiently large settlement that she'll be able to wait a while before getting another job elsewhere - preferably with employers who understand the difference between work and private life!
Stupid, vicious decision on every level
oop: - make sure you make them regret it, Hun!
