As a science fiction fan, (yeah, real sad geek type person) seeing burlesque depicted in comic strip art is quite appealing. The influence of corsetry and burlesque fashion on super-hero costume art is very strong – see the Watchmen film for example, especially the retro Minutemen proto-Watchmen outfit worn by the first Silk Spectre. A lot more could be made of superhero imagery in burlesque – I’ve seen the occasional Superman, Batman homage, but someone ought to go for some of the literary SF designs and do the full blown steam-punk and cyber-punk look too.
