Help, newby in need of performance experience - Midlands
I'm a burlesque newby based in Leicestershire, I have recently been having lessons and would really like to take my interest further. I've had previous performance experience with dance when I was much younger and also as a singer/front woman in a covers band so am not adverse to appearing in front of an audience. I have really been enjoying the whole experience and burlesque scene and would really like to get more involved.
If you can help I would be eternally grateful - please ask me lots of questions as being new my profile is probably not as exciting as it could be. Also if you have any advice in getting started/set up please let me know.:kiss:WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

Hi chick,
you are quite lucky 'cos Leicester is a hotbed of burlesque at the moment (unlikely as it may seem!).
Off the top of my head you have got:
- Darkteaser's Garter Lounge in Coalville
- Darkteaser's Darkside also in Coalville
- The Powder Room in Leicester
- Retribution occasionally holds Burlesque events (I performed at one about two weeks ago)
Also if you are willing to travel there is a healthy scene in Nottingham:
- Pitty Patt Club
- Shangri La Lounge (more belly dance but still some burlesque)
- Dr Sketchy's Nottingham (plug plug - Saturday 22nd at Escucha - buy your tickets at drsketchynottingham.co.uk )
I would say get yourself down to a few of these shows and get to know the people.
Do you have acts already? If you do, and you feel they are up to standard why not approach a promotor and ask if they will give you a newbie spot? If you don't have acts yet then your number one priority should be to create the best, most original, high-attention-to-detail act you can produce and work on it until it is polished.
In the meantime though, while you are working on this act maybe you could offer your services to a local night as a stage maid. I can think of quite a few performers who cut their teeth as maids - it can be great practice for the world of burlesque as most of the best maids do pick up in character or at least in a way that interacts with the compere and the audience. Also it makes you known to that promotor, shows them that you are reliable and good on stage so that when you approach them with your debut act they will be happy to put you on.
Good luck with starting out - and welcome to the world of burlesque, I'm sure you will love it!
